Anthony Bennett

At least he won't be eating that much...unless it's ice cream!

Tonsils and adnoids removed and the thinking is that it'll help his sleep apnea. Why does every reporter insist on adding the note that "he will be fine to play in Summer League"? No shit. He got his tonsils out and Summer League is in July for Christ's sake.

adult tonsils are not the same as kid tonsils. My nephew had em out at 20, it went south, and wound up in the hospital for a month.

FUCK, tonsil surgery. How is he supposed to deep throat Subway foot longs in the off season?

:yay:

I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 11. Mine were huge so it made it difficult for me to swallow food at times. I use to get strep throat quite a bit as well. It took about two weeks to heal. It made a huge difference for me.

My little brother got his removed a few years back around thanksgiving.

This should actually improve that skill.

Was the sleep apnea that big of a deal to begin with? I have a feeling that reporters were blowing things out of proportion.

Probably not. It may have added to his slow recovery - one of the most common burdens of sleep apnea is daytime sleepiness and given he had to work his ass off to get back in shape, I'd imagine he was substantially more exhausted during/after a workout than the average athlete. It was obviously a big enough deal to get his tonsils and what-not removed, but he's a professional who's going to do everything in his power to give himself a better chance at success. Then consider the added benefits & treatments available to millionaires beyond surgery.

Just speculating as I have no idea of the severity of the issue, but I can't imagine it plays a big role.

Bennett's choice to have voluntary surgery to try to improve the condition suggests that it was a big deal. No need otherwise to have the procedure.

Used to get sick like once a month before having mine taken out. Got pneumonia twice, strep throat 3 times..
it's been 8 years since and i've only been badly sick twice. Makes a huge difference.
I got it done at age 16 so it was kinda bad. The older you are, the worse it is so hope everything goes well.

Yes, bennett will be fine for a 6'7 powerforward. Translated - we are fucked.

Can't even blame Grant. He probably picked the best talent from that draft. Shame the #1 from a draft has a ceiling of probably a 6th man in a strange niche role of a 6'7 mixed forward.

I do agree with you, TT is likely suited for a bench role. With the money he will command it might be foolish for us to re-up him. Given the fact that Griffin on multiple occasions has mentioned our lack of size I think it is an extreme stretch to think AB is in our long term plans.

"To accomplish the goal of once again being a winning club, Griffin believes it will come down to five key areas: getting bigger, smarter, tougher, becoming better shooters and finding the right roster fit – something he feels can be achieved through the assets the team already possesses."

to me AB is nothing more than trade bait.

Look, Joe Johnson plays shooting guard at 6'7, Lebron plays SF at 6'8.5. AB is lacking every skill needed for a player of his height. (you can say hes a shooter all you want but he hasn't proven it). Unless he is Chuck Barkley or Larry Johnson he isn't going to amount to more than a chuck hayes type player... And there is nothing wrong with that, but he just isn't what we need.

I don't know why you keep stating his height like it means something. Height and size are not the same thing. Bennett seems like the exact type of PF Griffin would want to have given what he has emphasized in his press conferences.

He has a wingspan and a standing reach that are perfectly fine for his position. What does it matter where the top of his head is? He can reach just as high and just as wide as you would want a PF to.

When you are 50 wearing the mask is no big deal, When you are 20, its not going to help you with chicks. If the problem could be fixed by this then by all means, but I am not sure that will be enough. And yes sleep apnea can be debilitating. Saps your mental awareness.

Not to mention that Bennett's strength, speed, and overall athleticism are well above average, if not potentially elite, for the power forward position.

Bennett's strength, speed, athleticism, ability to jump multiple times very quickly, wingspan, and standing reach will serve him well at the power forward position.
