Very interested to see the title with Wilks. If it’s purely DC, we might want to pay attention to Mike Munchak.

His contract is up, and we can likely pay him big time to join as Browns OL coach and associate head coach.

Not to mention—aside from being the best OL coach in football—he also has head coaching experience, which would be valuable for Freddie to lean on.

I'd rather get Bill Callahan as OL coach.

Anyway, we shall see on Wilks. He definitely maximized his talent with the Panthers. But I'm worried that he doesnt know how to scheme the flaws away.

Hes better than Williams so let's see what he does with this talent.

Ward will be wasted in zone

One of the things Kitchens seems to really believe in is adapting scheme to personnel, so I have to imagine he'll at least be somewhat involved in making sure our DC does that as well.

We shall see.

Wilks LOVES to blitz. Which he almost always followed it up with zone behind. Now hes not a cover 2 guy, and it might have been out of necessity. The Panthers have/had AWFUL corners when he was DC.

He shall get his chance. Dude is definitely coaching to save his NFL career. Hes also very aggressive in his coaching. No 30 yard back safety here anymore. Most importantly, he might be a long term option, seeing as how he failed so miserably.

That’s why I thought we wouldn’t hire him. Hopefully kitchens gets him go adapt.

I agree. Wilks has been an NFL DC in just one season. In that season, his Carolina defense was fantastic despite having questionable corners. He was impressive enough with that group to get an NFL head coaching job.

Now in Arizona, he struggled to adjust to personnel, but he also thought he had time to bring in the personnel.

As a former DB and secondary coach, I’d have to think given our talent, he will get the most out of Ward.

If/when Wilks is hired, he’ll likely bring his former DC in Arizona and LB coach in Carolina, Al Holcomb..

Clyde Simmons hasn’t been mentioned yet, so we could see a clean swap of the Williams boys for Wilks and Holcomb...

It wasn’t a time thing when it came to personnel. It’s a lazy take. In a league where base is DB, you don’t go from top five to really bad.

I went to five cardinals games this year. He somehow managed to waste top talent on defense with just his scheme. Patrick Peterson was basically worthless playing soft ass zone. Hassan Riddick went from first round talent to trade block because they wanted him to be an up the middle blitzer, and the blitzes he dials are predictable and behind soft zone. When they didn’t get there, it was an easy read. Was awful.

Might also see Larry Foote as well. Worked with Kitchens for 3 years and worked with Wilks last year.

Pagano to Chicago as DC.
Very soon after Wilks announcement, think he was holding out hope for Cleveland?
