All this to shield from some interview questions?

Why the hell do they care so much?

Public relations is part of their business. The fact that both us fans and the press are discussing "why hasn't Kitchens been announced yet" demonstrates that it is a PR issue, and they want the eventual press conference to go as smoothly as possible. That may not seem to be a critical issue, but a professionally run organization is going to want to have everything run as smoothly as possible, whether it is critically important or not. Why do things the wrong-way/half-assed when you can do them right?

Plus...it's simply easier to do it this way. It lets them have one press conference with Kitchens and all three of his new coordinators instead of having one for each. And, they don't have to pull Kitchens out of interviewing/recruiting his staff just to prepare for and attend a press conference.

The written contract itself may not be finalized, but that's only because it is not most urgent need right now. But, you can be sure the essential terms of the contract are done -- Kitchens would not be participating in the interviews of potential coordinators/coaches if they had not already agreed on all the essential terms.

They have been doing this all cycle. 49ers/Kyle are trash cans.
Not only is he denying him a promotion, but it’s an opportunity again to work with his brother.

That’s low as shit. To the point that it feels like the league should step in and encourage them to allow it. Not demand, encourage.

There’s some chatter out there that a Browns player might be getting a contract extension.

The obvious guess would be Randall.
Would LOVE it.. dude is a hell of a player and brings swagger to the secondary that we haven’t had since Hanford Dixon and his gang

Maybe Schobert?

Just looking at our current contracts and Randall and Schobert make the most sense as guys deserving of extensions.

Randall makes $9 million next year, which is in range for top-10 safety money but does need an extension..

To me, Schobert would be the one making less than $1 million next year and a free agent in 2020...

Locking both these guys up long-term should be on Dorsey's agenda...

Ogbah also, but I’d like to see another year of him. I’m not sure he’s made himself a pivotal piece quite yet.

I would be more than happy to extend both Randall and Scho. Both have been very effective in their roles and I expect even better next year. With Collins likely moving on, I'd be happy to use that money in Schobert, maybe slightly less.

As for Randall, I think something like 4 years, 36 million would sound about right.
