Assistant coaches? (Lue on board)

Here is what he said.

"I'd personally love to see all 5 of em here next year. So excited."

Doesn't mean it's gonna happen. Nor will it probably happen. I said showing how good all 5 of em are.

A 100% pay raise sure doesn't hurt either.

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue on board)

Do assistant coaches get guaranteed contracts too? If so, how many coaches is Dan Gilbert paying? LOL!!!

If you throw enough money at the problems, eventually they go away.

CLEVELAND, OH – Tyronn Lue has joined Cavaliers Head Coach David Blatt’s staff as associate head coach, Blatt and General Manager David Griffin announced today.

“Over the past several weeks, it became clear that Ty could play a key role in our team’s future success,” said Griffin. “Ty fits our culture and vision for the franchise. His successful experience as both a player and coach is going to help us tremendously. Tyronn Lue joining Coach Blatt’s staff is more than exciting to all of us here in Cleveland. The leadership and knowledge of Ty is going to be critically important as we move into a new era of competitive Cavaliers basketball.”

Lue was most recently an assistant coach on head coach Doc Rivers’ staff with the Los Angeles Clippers, who captured the Pacific Division title with a 57-25 record in 2013-14. Prior to the Clippers, Lue spent four seasons as a member of Rivers’ Boston Celtics staff, the last two as an assistant coach. Lue began his time in Boston as the Director of Basketball Development in 2009-10.

“I could not be happier that Ty will be joining the Cavaliers’ coaching staff as my top assistant. I look forward to leveraging all of his experiences and expertise into our team’s development.” said Blatt. “This is a character guy and winner himself who played and worked with some of the greatest talents and successful leaders in NBA history. I am thrilled to have him by my side as we get to work in Cleveland.”

A native of Mexico, Missouri, Lue played 11 seasons in the NBA and appeared in 554 career games with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington, Orlando, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas and Milwaukee. The former University of Nebraska star won NBA Championships in 2000 and 2001 with the Lakers.

"First, I wouldn’t be in the position to make this career move and advancement without the deep support, mentorship and friendship that I have received and enjoyed from Doc Rivers. I want to thank Doc for helping prepare me so well for this next step and challenge,” said Lue. “Cleveland is a great opportunity. I am looking forward to joining Coach Blatt, David Griffin and the entire Cavaliers organization at a very exciting and promising time for the franchise. Through numerous discussions with David and Griff, I felt Cleveland is a great situation for me. I believe my background will help me play a key part in helping achieve the vision that the leadership of this franchise has for its team. I can’t wait to get to work with Coach Blatt and our players.”

Re: David Blatt press conference (1pm, Weds)

Not sure if this is the right place for it, but Dan Gilbert stepping up to the plate:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--cavs-make-tyronn-lue-the-highest-paid-assistant-coach-in-nba-history-133311878.html

The Cleveland Cavaliers have made associate head coach Tyronn Lue the highest-paid assistant coach in NBA history – and perhaps all of professional sports – league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Tyronn Lue agreed to a four-year, $6.5 million deal to become the Cavaliers' associate head coach. (USA TODAY …
To leave Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers to join coach David Blatt's staff with the Cavaliers, Lue agreed to a four-year, $6.5 million deal, sources said. The contract's final two years will pay Lue $1.75 million and $2 million, league sources said. The fourth year of the deal is a team option, sources said.

Lue will be an important part in helping Blatt transition from a decorated coaching career in Europe to the NBA.

Cavaliers management grew fond of Lue during the interview process for the head-coaching job that ultimately went to Blatt and immediately pursued him for the associate head-coaching job. Rivers didn't want to lose Lue from his Clippers staff, but the Cavaliers' historic financial commitment made it impossible to turn down, sources said.

In five years as an assistant under Rivers with the Boston Celtics and Clippers, Lue has developed into one of the NBA's most well-regarded young head-coaching prospects.

Lue, 37, played 11 seasons in the NBA for seven teams and won two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000 and 2001.

Boylan stays on board according to Finnan

I have no idea how well he meshed with the last coaching staff or the players, but he is a loyal assistant and a franchise man. He won't undermine the head coach to get ahead. His reputation has always been high in integrity.

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue on board + reportedly Boylan)

I have always loved Boylan, so I'm glad he's staying. He's a solid locker room/franchise guy and a good teacher. A really experienced NBA guy for Blatt to work with too.

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue on board + reportedly Boylan)

Boylan has ties to Griffin (both were in Phoenix at one point) and has assisted coaches of all different styles. He was there TWICE when Scott Skiles was fired, and had to pick up the pieces as an interim head coach. He was also there when Mike Brown got canned.

Boylan should be able to give Blatt invaluable advice both in preparing how to talk to these players and as Blatt's NBA coaching career evolves. Hopefully, he can help Blatt in this regard, in addition to being a long-time NBA assistant with an understanding of how to prepare throughout the season.

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue on board + reportedly Boylan)

Count me in the "Glad Boylan's Staying" group as well. I'll never forget his reaction when Dion hit the game winner against Detroit:
