Lloyd just said he heard today that Jamahl Moesley is most likely leaving.

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue, reportedly Boylan, and Posey?)

Nice to see Vitaly stay. I was hearing great things about his work with the big men last year and may have made Moesley redundant. Handy is a Mike Brown guy and Brown won't be coaching for the next couple years, thought he would land in Charlotte. Brielmaier surprised me because I thought he would bounce to another Pop tree franchise like Philly or Atlanta.

I hope Posey sticks. I remember watching him play in high school.

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue, Boylan, and now Posey?)

I don't have info that conflicts with Lloyd, but I would think the person who has the most chance to be around next year is Posey, since they just hired him for Summer League. You can see other coaches, like Handy, involved in recent Cavs footage like the Wiggins workout. Clearly Boylan, Brielmaier, Handy, and Potapenko are valued since they're going to Summer League, but the Cavs may not have been spending a lot of time sorting out their assistant coaches the past week or two. Is Kokoskov gone with Lue on board?

I would be a little surprised if Blatt doesn't make one hire who is "his" guy. Seems like he really likes Lue, and maybe that is enough. But to come in to a brand new job and you have 4 coaches from the previous regime and a guy who also applied for the job seems like a little odd from the outside.

I will say that I like an assistant staff with 2 former nba players, 1 old-coaching hand, 2 development guys that have been around the team, and whatever it is that Breilmaier does other than halftime interviews (kidding, sounds like he deals with video stuff among other things).

Posey has nba experience so they have a former pivot wing and pg useful for a young team. Posey was a great defender so should help wiggins

I really like the Posey pickup, could be very beneficial to have a former recent player these kids watched growing up teaching them NBA defense.

Old Navy saying that you don't change the sails until you see how the wind is blowing. I think Blatt keeping much of the old staff actually is about the smartest thing he could do. The people he knows really well will be Euro guys, and I can see why he doesn't want to bring them over. Keep the much of the old staff rather than just changing for the sake of change, and evaluate them during your first year. It takes some balls do that precisely because of what you said about coaches usually bringing in some of the their own people, and that the outside perspective is that coaches usually don't do that. But I think that just speaks to Blatt's confidence in his own ability to not only develop his players, but manage his staff as well.

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue, Boylan, and now Posey?)

Boylan sticks around because he has heavy NBA assistant experience and is said to be completely loyal and not the type to show up or undermine those above him. So both Blatt and Lue will rely on his steadiness and experience.

The other guys are more skills development coaches, right? So they just have a hand in individual skill development and one on one work/training with the players. Not actual gameplanning and scheming.

As far as Posey, will he be the 3rd assistant on the bench or another skills guy?

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue, Boylan, and now Posey?)

If LBJ or any other big name free agent signs will he want any specific assistant coaches on the team

Why not lets build the best coaching staff we ever seen even if we hire five more! well because :king:

Re: Assistant coaches? (Lue, Boylan, Posey?, and now Drew?)

Is there a limit on the amount of assistant coaches? Holy crap.

No limit as far as I know. I think Mike Brown had 7 when he was the Lakers. A staff with Boylan, Drew, Lue, Posey (plus Handy, Potapenko, Brielmaier) is, well, big. Other than Lue, the Cavs haven't made any coaching announcements, as far as I know.

So perhaps Blatt is using summer league to figure out whom to retain?

Drew just wants to ride our coattails. :chuckles:
