I post quite a bit on InsideHoops and there was a common wisdom on that site when the trade was made with the Clippers and we acquired BD that his weight would get out of control and he would find a way to get on the inactive list for the remainder of the season. It was a running joke, especially amongst the people that dislike Cleveland, because why would anyone even try on a team like our Cavs or in a city like this one?
It was just one joke in a long line of anti-Cleveland rhetoric that we see almost constantly on these general NBA forums.
Baron proved all of those people wrong. He was a true professional from the moment that he stepped foot in Cleveland until the moment he was amnestied. I never felt as though he wasn't giving 100 percent or letting himself go or that he was forcing management to move him. Not only that but, as others noted, he was THE catalyst in making us all forget about 6's first trip back to Cleveland by blowing his doors off during the second meeting in Cleveland. He brought an edge to the team in that game. Not only was the result different, but the tenor of the team was different. There was no laughing on the sidelines, friendly chatter with 6 or giving dap to the Heat on the court... It was serious business and BD was the one that set the tone.
I have nothing but respect for the guy and I wish him the best in NYC. Hopefully, he has the same luck with 6's team in the Big Apple that he had with them in the Q.
Thanks, Baron.
