There are a number of Marvel guys who can take Superman. You mentioned Doom, but also Stark and, naturally, Thanos. Oh, and Squirrel Girl too. I am pissed that Dr. Doom is relegated to rot with the shitty Fantastic Four franchise.

I totally agree.. You can add the Silver Surfer, The Hulk (Savage and definitely Banner-Hulk), Magneto, Prof X, Reed Richards, and Apocalypse to the list of guys who would simply dominate Superman without much effort.

Guys who could really fuck up Superman but might not win would probably be Ultron, Wolverine, Juggernaut, and Thor.

Do you enjoy Arrow and The Flash on CW? I rather like them, though this season of Arrow went off the rails a little.

I haven't seen much... I usually have no time to watch TV, and when I do, my wife hogs the remote and forces me to watch the Filipino Channel.

I'm hoping this new movie will be good, but I am not holding my breath after that trailer. The film division seems the weaker compared to the TV folks. The way they've handled the Flash movie is already semi-disastrous.

Yeah, I feel the same way.. I'm hoping for the best but definitely not expecting it..

That's an interesting matchup..

Bane is one of the absolutely best DC villains. He's a genius, he's super-strong, he has incredible resources....

It really depends... I think if Bane set out, secretly, to defeat Superman - he'd have a great shot at doing so.

But in almost any other circumstance, for example say if he were committing a crime or series of crimes in Gotham and was expecting Batman yet Superman showed up - he'd be fucked.

He also isn't as smart as Batman, nor does he have Wayne Enterprises at his disposal. He also would have a difficult time covertly obtaining Kryptonite without Superman or the JLA finding out about it.

A direct confrontation between the two, I think, entirely depends on the element of surprise and sufficient preparation.

However, we're talking about Bane... So, like Doctor Doom; he is assuredly going to avoid a direct confrontation with Superman.

Instead, he we would more likely use an elaborate series of ruses and traps to force Superman to surrender; perhaps involving Lois Lane, or the lives of the city of Metropolis. At that point, I doubt Bane would attempt to kill Superman himself, but instead, simply achieve the original goal he set out on and avoid even the minimal risk that Superman could attack him head on.

tl;dr, Superman would have his hands full if Bane plotted against Metropolis; but if Superman were coming after Bane in Gotham (without Bane expecting it) - it'd be a short fight.

I don't think Wolverine would necessarily win...

But if Wolverine surprised Superman, which isn't that hard to do, he could kill him.

If it was a fair and square fight, Superman would win.

The thing is, Superman has to completely avoid Wolverine, because (1) Wolverine, like Cap, would understand how to fold Superman without relying on strength; and (2) A single swipe of the claws would take Superman's head off.

Wolverine has some remarkably useful advantages in this matchup, including:

1) He has no problem whatsoever killing Superman; Wolverine would go all out.

2) Berserker Rage would kick in pretty quick giving him some notable buffs. X-ray/heat vision in this situation is almost useless - Wolverine can survive a nuclear explosion. Wolverine can't be couldn't be knocked out while enraged - again, can survive the shockwave from a nuke - so, he can take a punch. So, Superman couldn't really incapacitate Wolverine in this situation. This pretty much would force Supes hand to go for the kill or bounce.. Knowing Clark Kent, he'd not go for the kill, no matter what.

3) Healing factor... not much Superman can do about this...

4) Reflexes.. Wolverine has much faster reflexes than Superman contrary to what many might think.

5) Adamantium... This plus the healing factor really fucks up Superman's ability to permanently damage Wolverine without going purely godlike, and even then, it'd still be tough.

Even with all these advantages, I still think Superman would win 4 out of 5 times in this matchup from the instant knockout. Superman would find it difficult to use his powers alone to kill Wolverine, and with that it should be said that Wolverine is anything but defenseless... He can win this fight, although he's at a major disadvantage.

If you look at the peak of the X-Men, meaning all of their members, that includes guys like Jean, Prof X, Emma Frost, Juggernaut and Magneto. Among others....

Lanterns lose against the whole of the X-Men, but could beat some of the X-Men teams lacking the more powerful members.

I love how this thread turned out. I am like a semi-nerd. Never into super heroes and then poof I was blown away by Batman Begins. I loved the realistic take Nolan gave Batman and then Marvel started to kill it and now I derive a little too much pleasure from these types of movies.

I will say Marvel is killing it right now and I saw Man of Steel with low expectations but I dug the way they did it. I dig Batman because he, along with Tony Stark, have no super powers, they are just guys fighting injustice.

I will hold my breath to see how Affleck does his take on the bat. But right now, I am literally giddy over the new Avengers coming out in like 2 weeks.


Deadpool looks super promising as well.
