Battle for the AL Central Pt. II -|- Indians vs. Tigers -|- Sept. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, what's still keeping us sort-of in this is the amount of head to head games we have left against Detroit and KC. But we can't really afford to blow the rest of those.

Wouldn't that put them less out if you count the win? All this post does is make me more pissed that they didn't win tonight. THANKS.

Man I am pissed.

They were closer to the Wild Card but further away from the Division at this point last season.

Not mathematically over but if the Indians go 18-7 over this stretch (.720) the Tigers and every other team in front of us would have to play .500 baseball for us to have a chance.

That is where tonight really killed us. The difference between 3 and 5 games back at this juncture is incredibly substantial from a playoff percentages standpoint.

We have to realistically get the next two to have a decent shot. Just don't see how we can exit this series down 5, 6 or 7 games and think we have even a remote chance at getting to the post season.

Need to find a way to get a split now. It'll be interesting to see how they respond to this gut-punch loss.

I'll reiterate the loss column is the key - we have 4 more losses than Detroit and KC. We need to be 4 games better than one of them the rest of the way to have a shot (can't forget the M's). Not ideal but not unrealistic.

I wont argue where we are right now or the fact we are still in it. The thing is with out adding or letting key players go they do not have what it takes to be a world series contender. I wont point blame but something needed to be done and it was not. I am amazed we got this close and really love the fight. However I think the average fan sees the team as well they did not improve so why care. So much has to go right for them to make a play off spot but I feel the lack of improving or addressing key losses will hurt them in the final push this year. Also now the beast that Is the Cavs now I really worry about the future of this team. Oh well good luck to Indians players and Francona the rest of this season with what you got.

Last night was the most Cleveland game this team has played all year.

So a hard-fought game where they repeatedly get out of trouble but ultimately the 'bend and don't break' doesthem in the 9th, then Cleveland fans finally show up in the message thread to comment only once the other shoe drops to complain about how Cleveland it all is? :chuckle:

Was actually a fun game with the way they kept getting out of jam after jam after jam, up until the team's best reliever scuffled. Eh, so be it. And I will continue to say, this is what worried me about the youngsters pulling these games out in August- Cleveland wouldn't just sit back and enjoy it. 'It' being a nice run, albeit unsustainable, by a bunch of young guys getting their first crack. All it would become is 'OH THIS SO CLEVELAND' even though it really isn't. Oh well.

Are you questioning my premise or the fact that I only commented after a loss? I accept the latter as a valid criticism, but not the former.

I was simply clarifying what your former referred to- in which the barrage of messages only once something bad happens as being part of the 'THIS IS SO CLEVELAND' mindset- which is part 'what happens on the field' but mostly a negative fan mentality that apparenlty revels in misery. You weren't the only one, just the last post I saw on it. The fact is this team, when you look at how the rotation came together and what they are running out there in the field, and with how much money the Tigers have spent, should not be in this situation to begin with. But due to their effort, and the Tigers' actual choking, they are. But hey, our best reliever blew a save, so man, let's all pour out our Cleveland fan angst. Part of THSI IS SO CLEVELAND is apparently missing the forest for the trees.

It's a trained response by this point. Heart crushing loss -> Only In Cleveland.

I like this team. 5th or 6th in the AL in runs, OPS+, wRC, wOBA. As of last week they were 2nd or 3rd in FIP and xFIP. If they had a league average defense, they'd be in first.

Biggest problem is that the team is composed largely of young players. That's only fixable with experience.

That said, this was predictable. Not sure why people get emotionally attached to a team that was never going to contend in the first place.

Focus on the Cavs. They'll be a favorite from go.

Tribe up 2-0 now on the guy who gets to bang Kate Upton.

But who cares? Season is over anyway....

Huh... I'm the only on here. Hopefully the Tribe blows this so some other people post in here. Would be a shame if Salazar keeps all the posters away by having a good game.

I'm amazed Old Man Giambi still has some life left in him.
