Battlefield 3

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cannot fucking wait for the beta. I'm gonna have to wait til the 29th, but I'm trading Black Ops back while they still have the extra 30% offer going on at Game Stop.

I have to wait until Friday since I have work and studying to do on Thursday.

Oh my god I love it.

I got it this morning, and probably have 5 hours or so of game play. Love it. The map for the beta is pretty good, the guns are fantastic, the sounds are even better. I am actually happy that the servers are buggy as shit and have crashed on me 3 times tonight because it means that I will actually get work done.

I thought BFBC2 was too spread out and caused for a lot of boring stretches throughout a game. How do you compare the beta so far? I've enjoyed the arcade feel of run and gun, tons of action in COD...is Battlefield just a different style altogether?

The only game mode available right now is rush. So although its a BC2 game mode, it is on a map that is very well designed such that you are always in action. So if you are looking for action, look no further. I think the spawning is very good in that you always end up near a fight on a squad mate, and I have only gotten frustrated with it when I was rushing to get re-spawned. If we get to play Caspian I'll be able to comment on the huge maps, but I can't as of yet

The beta is available for download!! I don't know about PSN, but you have to go to the Games Marketplace on XBL and find BF3 to download it.

Downloading now...will give my reaction after a little while.

EDIT: So far I feel the same about it as I did BC2...it's just not fun. Emphasis on camping, the guns suck, just not an enjoyable game. Tries to be too realistic, but I want to have fun, not crouch in a corner and wait for passerby's. Thankfully this made my decision for MW3 way easier.

And Modern Warfare games don't already emphasize camping enough?

Learn to fly a helicopter in a Battlefield game. Embrace the larger environments. Change can be good. The last thing we need to do is support the Madden-ization of the Modern Warfare series.

Too late for that, it's the same game with same problems every year, with a different coat of paint depending on what time era we're playing in.

I'll support Call of Duty because I have fun playing it. I'm not about to spend hours on hours "embracing change" when I'm not enjoying it. I buy these games to have fun, not to train myself to like something different.

People bitch about Call of Duty being basically the same with every installment...that's because it's a winning formula.

No, it's lazy development. They're simply rehashing the same multiplayer experience each year, charging you $50, and not providing any discernible improvements in gameplay. It's a hilariously effective cash cow, and the fact that you guys buy into it really makes me sad.

But if that's your thing, then fine, I'm happy for you.

I wouldn't complain about it being the same if it didn't have the same problems year in and year out. Black Ops is arguably the worst one in the series, between the broken spawning system and the bullet lag. And let's not even start with how crappy the servers have been lately, too... it's absolutely inexcusable, especially when you have a franchise with such a huge fanbase. It's the same thing with every Call of Duty but as long as we continue to give them their millions of dollars then it'll never get fixed. But hey, why go through the effort to fix a problem when you've already made hundreds of millions of dollars? It's become all about quantity, not quality, and that right there is why people bitch (rightfully so) about Call of Duty. Using a winning formula is fine and dandy. Completely ignoring problems that pop up year after year that people constantly complain about is a slap in the face to anyone who spends money on this game. In fact, I'm trading this one in a month early just because it's such a giant piece of shit... that in and of itself is a low point in the Call of Duty series; I've never traded back a Call of Duty other than a Treyarch installment, and even then I waited until the night MW2 came out before I did it.

This beta is incredibly buggy though... pretty disappointed that I can't get into a game with a couple of my friends. I guess it's to be expected, seeing as it is a beta, but this game is one month from launch... I hope this is nowhere near indicative of the final product, or this is going to be a disappointing fall/winter for first person shooters.
