Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Chesterland right now, although I'm moving out to University Heights in about a month. I'll be right in between the Wine Spot on Lee Road and Warehouse Beverage on Mayfield, so I'm pretty pumped. Wine Spot has a great tap selection (Gumballhead, Matriarch Triple IPA, Take the Black Stout right now, Dreadnaught a few weeks back.) Warehouse gets a bunch of limited stuff in every once in a while. Both are active on Facebook, so I always keep my eye peeled to what they're bringing in.

Red Wine and Brew has a decent selection, but some of their bottles have been sitting there for a while. Also, if you want any limited brews, you have to ask at the front and even then you aren't guaranteed to get any. Even with the expanded distribution of Three Floyd's around town, they're pretty stingy about it. I'm curious to see how their two-story store in Mentor turns out.

I usually frequent Warehouse. They generally have some good stuff. I'm trying to get into some brewing this winter. Not a lot of room in the house, though.

If anyone hasn't tried Ska Brewing's Autumnal Mole Stout, do so immediately.

I picked it up as a part of a mixed six pack and it was easily one of the best stouts I have ever had. It has a delicious cocoa flavor with a nice peppery aftertaste. I immediately (well, a couple of days later...I'm lazy) went to Total Wine and picked up two sixers to store in my fridge. I'm probably going to buy at least one more sixer before they are all sold out, this being a seasonal and what-not.

Seriously, damn good beer. Strangely, one I prefer in the can to on tap too, although on tap was still very good.

Anywhere on the east side where I can find it?

I live in Charlotte, so I'm not sure about where you can find it. It's a beer from Colorado, though, so I assume if it's distributed to North Carolina it's probably distributed to Ohio. I generally try to avoid posting beers in here that most of you guys wouldn't be able to find. There are a ton of great breweries in NC, but it seems kind of pointless to post about them here since the majority of them don't distribute out of state (yet).

Anyone on untappd in here?

I do. My ID is briantw if anyone wants to add me.

I live in Charlotte

Just went to No-Da brewery (and Birdsong) while I was in Charlotte last weekend. I have to say... No-Da had some really impressive beers. I had an Imperial IPA, the CoCo Loco Porter, and their imperial pumpkin ale. Highly recommended! Birdsong was ok, but after being next door at No-Da, there was no comparison.

I miss not coming up to Ohio this year.

No Great Lakes Christmas Ale for me. I got buzzed on two of those last year.

I heard about this, I need to get a new phone so I can start downloading apps again. Like 1/4 of my screen doesn't work so I can't type stuff in. How do you like that app? A couple of my friends have it.

Got a sixer of Sam Adam's White Christmas Ale and another sixer of Sam Adam's Winter Lager. The White Christmas was terrible, tasted way to flowery and made my stomach feel awful. The Winter Lager was decent, had lots of cinnamon flavor to it and I would probably buy it again. Looking forward to trying Great Lakes Christmas Ale ASAP.

It's pretty nice, they recommend a lot of similar beers to ones you checked in. It's pretty simple to use and its fun.

I absolutely love using it, simply because it helps me find beers I've never had before. I'm not one to write a review on every single beer, but its great to use when trying to find a beer you've been chasing. For instance, I went on last week and saw Ballantine's in downtown Willoughby had tapped a Stone Expresso IRS. It also gives you the jump if any limited distribution brews hit the stores.

My handle is kevinoc0 is anyone wants to add me.

added you all, cant remember my username, its either Eddie or FiveThous

Next time you're in Charlotte, check out Triple C brewery. They're my personal favorite in the city. They have an absolutely amazing coffee porter called Up All Night that has made its way into my regular orders list, and their Greenway IPA is very good as well.

I like Birdsong and NoDa a lot too. Those are basically the top three. Old Mecklenburg kind of sucks, as they don't really have any good heavier beers (IPAs or stouts). There's also a new brewery called The Unknown, but I haven't had a chance to check them out yet. I think there are ten total breweries in the city right now, with at least one or two more opening in the near future.

More recent stuff...

Had Rogue's Voodoo Doughnut Pretzel, Raspberry, & Chocolate Ale. It was pretty tasty. I thought I could taste the pretzel for the first sip or two, but after that I mostly just tasted the other two flavors. Still a pretty good ale, though.

If anyone has a chance to try Evil Twin's Imperial Doughnut Break, I highly recommend it. I can't say I've ever had a bad brew by Evil Twin, but Doughnut Break is one of the best from them that I've tried. You can absolutely taste the coffee and doughnuts when you drink it. Absolutely delicious.

I picked this up the other day at my local beer store, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. It cost $25 for the bottle, so I have high hopes.
