Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damn, Jack... That Brooklyn better be good for $25/Bomber! I'm lukewarm on their brown ale (if I'm going to drink a brown ale, I'd go for Duck Rabbit all day) but I've admittedly never had any of their other brews.

I'm still hoarding an Avery Maharaja from last summer/fall. I might have to open it tonight for Deng's debut with the Cavs.

To be honest, I've stopped giving a shit about how much bottles of beer cost. I don't even look any more. I just take them up to the counter and sigh when I hear the total. This time it was about ninety bucks.

I also just ordered a couple of bottles of these bad boys:

If you're a beer snob and want a good place to order hard-to-find stuff online, check out bringonthebeer.com. You can sign up for the newsletter and get emailed whenever the guy who runs it gets rare beer in stock. He only sells the best of the best, and it's a good resource to find beers that aren't otherwise available in your state. I'm eagerly awaiting his next case of Pliney.

This is the email I got from the guy today regarding those beers pictured above:

I couldn't believe it. I'd been begging for more with no luck. And then they arrived - the last bottles of Fifty Fifty's - 2013 Eclipse Imperial Stout.

A highly coveted beer that gives you an unparalleled tasting experience. Here's why:

Eclipse is not just one beer, it's ten.

You see, this masterpiece is carefully crafted by taking very small batches of the award-winning beer "Totality Imperial Stout" - rated 98 out of 100 - and aging each batch for an additional half a year in a bourbon/whiskey barrel from one of the world's finest, high-end distilleries.

One variation of Eclipse was aged in Elijah Craig Bourbon 12-year oak barrels from Louisville, Kentucky. While another slowly matured inside High West's premium bourbon barrels from Park City, Utah.

10 different top-tier barrels were used in total. Giving you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sample and compare up to 10 different barrel-aged variations of the same base beer. You'll experience first hand how each style of barrel imparts its own subtle and unique flavors on this already delicious beer.

I got my hands on 6 of the most sought after bottles. Each marked with a different color wax top, representing the type of barrel it was aged in.

Grabbing a bottle of each makes for one of the most enjoyable six-packs of beer you'll ever get to try. Or use it as a truly thoughtful gift for a friend who appreciates rare, small-batch beers.

I ordered five of them (the sixth was already sold out) and a bottle of Tokio by Brew Dog (illegal to sell in North Carolina because it's above 16%, which is currently the state's limit for beer sales).

Other beers sitting in my fridge right now:

Great Lakes Christmas Ale (still got about ten of these fuckers):

Lagunitas Brown Shugga:

Olde Hickory Event Horizon:

And some other shit. Good times await in the Brickman fridge. I literally do not have time to drink all the beer I accumulate!

How is the Brown Shugga? I almost got a growler of it at Heinen's just now but opted for the Columbus Bodhi which is a double IPA and came highly recommended. I also bottled my first attempt at homebrewing last Saturday, so I threw one in the fridge this morning to try it out. I know it's way to early to try it but I couldn't wait any longer.

Brown Shugga is pretty good. Definitely worth a purchase if you can find it. It's very unique.

Lagunitas Sucks, however, is probably their best beers. One of the better double IPAs I've had.

Also, not sure if anyone has had DirtWolf by Victory, but it is fantastic. I haven't had it recently, but I saw it on one of my friend's Untappd timelines so I figured I'd mention it. Easily a top five double IPA.

Totally with you on that. Relatively cheap and seems to be in normal distribution around Cleveland now. I know this can be said for many beers, but dirtwolf on tap is absolutely fantastic. Still put Columbus Bodhi ahead of it, though. I think Columbus is finally going to start bottling Bodhi too.

Getting my trade package delivered tomorrow. Will be my first time trying Pliny-got three that were bottled last week. Traded a four pack of Head Hunter and threw in a Mystic Mamma, White Rajah, and a Blackout Stout. Trading can really be cumbersome, but awesome when you get a few extras.

Ballast Point Sea Monster was tasty. Not the best Imperial Stout I've had, but very solid for the price (10-12 dollars). Definitely recommended if you can find it in your area.

Just grabbed this in a trade earlier this week. Was really looking forward to it and heard great things, but was kind of let down. Pretty straightforward IPA in my opinion--nothing that separates itself from others in the area. Still have 4 left in the fridge, though. Guess I'll see if it grows on me.

I know there was a thread a little while back on homebrewing, but I figured I would bring it up again. Since it's still shitty and wintery outside, I could at least start reading right now. I've never done it before so I figure I should read as much as possible before I start up with simple extract brewing.

All I crave right now is Red Tail Ale from Mendocino, CA. I buy other beers that cost 5-10 bucks more and come away wishing I just got a 12 pack of Red Tail Ale.

For some reason it leaves me a little more groggy in the morning than others, but the taste is spot on.

Just stocked up my cabinet with some rare west coast beers (plus the Game of Thrones beer, which I've had since whenever it released back in the fall...saving it for the premiere):

I'm drinking one of the Sahalies right now and it is an excellent wild ale. It has a little of that wild funk nose along with plenty of citrus, and tastes incredibly smooth for a beer that is near 10% abv. Recommended.

Bought a sixer of Dogfish Head Indian pale Ale which is vastly superior to the IPAs that make DFH popular

Gf got me chimay cinq cents for valentines day. The blue chimay is one of my all time faves, this cinq cents was very good too

Unfortunately I only had a small glass of it because she also bought me a bottle of whiskey, and on valentines day I nearly broke my knee at a soccer game so I needed the whiskey to recover. And the damn cork wouldn't go back in the chimay so she covered it with plastic wrap and it got all flat

Jack: Those are so rare I've only seen two before. Impressive.

Drink more Racer 5 from Bear Republic. Delicious and 7.5 alcohol by volume. At my wedding a table of guys convinced the entire reception they were all out so that they would have as much as possible.

So while drinking a German beer recently, I noticed that the Reinheitsgbot will be be celebrating it's quincentennial (500 years) in 2016. I'm thinking about a trip to Bavaria to commemorate. Never been there before. Probably go to Munich. Any suggestions?

I got them from a site called bringonthebeer.com. It's an awesome site. The guy who runs it sends out emails if you're on his mailing list when he gets rare stuff in. I've placed five orders there since I found out about it about a month and a half ago. I just got orders two and three today (see above). Order four shipped today, and order five was a pre-order so I'm not sure when it will ship. Regardless, I can vouch that the site is totally legit and really great. He had to delay one of my orders a week because of extreme cold temperatures in Chicago, so he sent me a few emails detailing the status, and then he ended up combining my second and third order and refunding me 15 bucks or so for the decreased shipping. He didn't have to and I wouldn't have bitched if he hadn't, so just generally good customer service.

Women sunbath in the nude in the park and riverbed in Munich, even for a lunch break.

Anyone try this before?

Downing one now... I have a cold and wanted some citrus, and beer. It kind of tastes like a soda pop but its refreshing. I have the feeling after one or two I'm going to need a real beer.
