Blazers players worried LaMarcus Aldridge will leave

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd be surprised if he went to Dallas. I think he's one of the guys, like Bosh, that has said he really has no interest in playing in his "hometown." Heck, you really don't see players clamoring to return home, outside of James.

No you couldn't. We've been down this road and had this conversation last summer.

Kevin Love compared to LaMarcus Aldridge last year:

Better win shares (14.3 to 7.5); Better offensive and defensive win shares
Better PER (26.9 to 21.8)
Better BPM (8.4 to 0.3)
Better VORP (7.3 to 1.5)
Higher TS% (.591 to .507)
More points (26.1 to 23.2)
More rebounds (12.5 to 11.1)
More assists (4.4 to 2.6)

I just don't really see a legitimate fact-based argument that Aldridge was better last year. He had better teammates, but other than that Love was better at virtually everything else.

This is a statistical analysis and it takes out this year to make the argument look better and ignores defense. I like Love allot, but LMA is the better power forward. He is a rich man's Bosh.

All that said, why do we need to compare? Is Steph Curry better than Kyrie? Probably,. but that doesnt diminish Kyrie as a player.

It takes out this year because using this year would be completely unfair. Aldridge got to be the first option on his team. Love was utilized as the third option on his. Comparing their performances last year, on the other hand, evaluates them both when they were the top option on their team. Love demanded a trade to a team where he wasn't the best player. Aldridge to to keep on being the best player on his team.

I could compare Love last year to Aldridge this year and Love would still have the advantage in all the categories.

don't forget the most important thing that love can do and aldrige cant is shoot 3's and stretch the floor to the max, that alone is a huge factor since it opens up the lane for the rest of the team and changes the game offensively

Well, Aldridge can shoot threes. He actually shot a perfectly respectable 35% from three this year. However, he only took 1.5 threes a game, so it's hard to say if that's a sustainable number or an outlier, especially since this was the first year he really made it a part of his arsenal.

You can look up any of my posts when Love was a target. I was all for letting the Love deal pass for things just like this. Aldridge is a better player than Love.

Now that I have seen the team, Aldridge would be a giant waste here. He isn't as good of a shooter, which is a huge reason the team is so successful.

If i'm being honest, I wouldn't trade Love for Aldridge.

Still, he is an awesome player, and if he does leave Portland, it could be a great opportunity for us to swoop in with the Haywood contract, and get Batuum.

Lee is completely right, you totally ignored defensive metrics like DRPM or say DRAPM; Aldridge > Love by +1.3 to +1.7, which greater than 1 stdev higher than Love.

You also ignored Aldridge's ability to effectively play both PF and C without the need to "go small," Aldridge's substantially better block rate, and his substantially better defensive opponent stats (eFG, PER, opp. ppg)

When taking this into account Aldridge's RPM is slightly higher than Love's for last year (5.12 > 5.06).

So like I said, you can't "easily make the case" that Love was better than Aldridge last year; unless you completely discount defensive contributions and ignore the fact that Aldridge shared the floor with numerous scoring options including Damian Lillard.

Notice how this thread turned into a Love vs Aldridge conversation?

Wtf...

Cavs board, with similar players, in similar treadmill situations. It's not surprising at all imo.

Yeah, you really could easily argue that Love was better. I just did, and you only cited one stat to counter my several. You could also argue that Aldridge was better, as you have. My point was that it's not clear to me (or most people) that Aldridge was better last year. I'll agree that Aldridge is a better defender, but I still think Love had the better overall season last year.

As an example, during their yearly #NBARANK event, ESPN put Love at 7th and Aldridge at 13th after last year, so the majority of NBA reporters agree that Love was better last year too.

My problem with your statements comes from the bolded.
