Brandon Weeden: GTFO!!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Take the talk of the college QB's to the appropriate thread..

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I still think we win about 7 or 8 games.

Think too many people are overreacting over one game.

7 or 8 is the sky, but that's a bold sky. The Browns got New England, Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit, and Indy outside of their division to play this year. Take away our own division, as bad at it might be, I'd find it really, really hard to believe they split even. Let's say that do, the division is down this year. I don't think Baltimore and Pittsburgh are as good as years before, still better than us.. Say they go 3-3, I don't see them beating Green Bay, New England, and Indy even. So that's still 6 losses. I don't think they can score enough points against those three QB's.

They still got to go against Chicago, Detroit(they can put a lot of points on the board), even KC is going to be better, and the Jets at least have a tough and physical defense that can really limit us offensively. And make it a field goal kicking game that can go either way. So those are all teams that can easily beat us. And yes, I am sure the Browns can, and will beat one of those teams. That doesn't even mention teams like the Bills(hey they almost beat NE), the Rams(they look better), and of course the lousy Jags.

Their schedule is not that easy. I don't see a really easy opponent on their schedule outside the Jags. The Browns are going to be in some close games with a lot of these teams, and over the years they've been infamous for being horrible at closing games. I see a 5 win team. 7 or 8 is overachieving for sure.

We're asking them to go 5-2, or 4-3 outside of the division(if we split and go .500), and the three teams I just see us having a very hard time beating in NE, GB, and Indy. That's pretty high expectations.

7 or 8 wins is going to be pretty tough.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Seriously 7 or 8? Yes we have some nice players, but every team in the league has some nice players. We have possibly the worst qb play in the league and obvious holes at the corner position that most teams can exploit. This team will get a top 5 pick. Its clear the front office isn't trying to win this season and I agree with that strategy. The question is do the Browns get pick 5 or can they be bad enough to get pick 1.

And I hear this every single year: You guys are overreacting to week 1!!! Heard this same statement last year and the year before. And every year the Browns suck week 1 and beyond. This team is no different. Perhaps they have a little more young talent on defense. The front 7 is nice. Every other area is lacking. The Browns again have few pro bowl caliber players and little depth. Paired with shitty qb play, they won't win much at all.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Big Ben did it in 06 and Eli did it in 08. Both were mediocre quarterbacks at best. Ben was pretty atrocious to be honest.

In all honesty Flacco is also an average quarterback at best that relied heavily on his defense as well as the outstanding skill position players on offense.

Flacco's got an 86 career rating, Roethlisberger had a 98.6 during the regular season in 05. Sure, Manning was average throughout 07 but he's since become elite. None of these guys are mediocre. I would fucking love to land a quarterback of any of these guys' skill level. Roethlisberger looks to be declining, but he was still really, really good for a while.

Brandon Weeden's QBR was 16.2. That's not overreacting.

It's hardly a fluke when he had the worst QBR rating at 27.0 last season of any starting QB. I don't know how many teams can win a lot of games, with the starting QB playing that terrible. I guess to say not many at all.

QBR is a flaming condom of stats.

Peyton Manning, according to QBR, had the 5th best performance last week.

And Weeden had a bad day. Once again, let's see more than one game before we bury him for good.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

If it makes anyone feel any better (I'm sure it won't).. after his embarrassing performance in Week 1 last season, the next game he went 26/37, 322 yards, 2 TD, 0 ints against the Bengals

I'll betcha the $50 cafemerald will be paying me that they don't win 8 games.

QBR needs to be abolished. I broke down some analysis on it last year, but any rating which consistently rates Tebow over Brees needs to be completely thrown out.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Gotta see how the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals rebound from their losses this past week before I can make a guess on the Browns record. My guess is the Ravens throttle the Browns (sorry, guys), the Bengals and Steelers fight a close game that Cincy ends up winning. Steelers beat the Bears at home and Vikings in London to go 2-2 into the bye. Bengals find their groove and go on a nice winning streak. Ravens look decent, but not great.

Browns: Jets, Jaguars, Steelers once, Bengals once, Ravens once, Bills, Lions, Chiefs, and Vikings are all winnable games. The rest aren't. Honestly, I'm leaning towards 4-12 or 5-11 again. Until they get a good QB, these seasons will continue to happen.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

ESPN Total QBR is not the same as the QB rating. It's still pathetic, but it's a different formula.

ESPN Total QBR
#2 Andy Dalton, CIN - 91.8
#24 Joe Flacco, BAL - 34.4
#27 Ben Roethlisberger, PIT - 25.5
#30 Brandon Weeden, CLE - 16.2

Traditional QB Rating
#12 Andy Dalton, CIN - 97.2
#24 Ben Roethlisberger, PIT - 76.7
#28 Joe Flacco, BAL - 69.4
#31 Brandon Weeden, CLE - 48.4

Last season, Weeden's season average was 27.0. A low of 1.0 in week 1, and a high of 76.6 in week 13. 50 is an average number, 70 is a probowl number for a season average. Weekly numbers are expected to be up and down, but Weeden has some particularly wild swings.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I guess I posted that in the wrong thread, but there is enough talent on the defensive sideof the ball that is going to knock us out of the top 5 or 6. We will probably go like 7-9 and pick 8th. I think at this point Tahj, Bridgewater and Clowney have locked up top 5 spots. (Unless Tahj just has a horrific season which I just dont see happening.)

Anyone know much about Aaron Murray? He's supposedly grading out as 1st rounder talent right?

I couldn't imagine taking Aaron Murray over some of the other guys available this year, namely Fales or Morris.

He just does not have enough arm to date, but I really do like him as a developmental guy. He really is similar in style to Brees coming out, but just needs time to further develop physically while adapting to the league.

Just my take.

A couple of those fluke interceptions will alter those numbers dramatically, though he still needs to be better.
