Brandon Weeden: GTFO!!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Haden - gets burnt by top WR
Ward - can't pass cover
Little - drops passes and can't run routs
Richardson - who knows

So we go Sheard and Taylor

1: you really complaining about the Haden pick? Really?
2: was drafted as a run stopper, guess what, he rocks at it.
3: has been a receiver for like 2 years, give him a chance.
4: obviously hasn't played yet, but we all expect him to beast.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

You can try to deny the fact that a torn labrum and shoulder tendonitis is not a long team problem that needs a soluton.

You can try to deny the fact that at 28, there is very little room for growth and the ceiling of his prospect status is very limited.

You can try to deny the fact he is coming from an offense that relys very little on decision making and a complex system of routes.

You can try to deny the fact that almost no other teams between 22-37 had any interest in this guy.

You can pretend that just because H&H are the leaders of this team that they are somehow infallible to making a panic selection.

I cannot do those things, and I've said all I'm going to say about Weeden. I hope the Browns atone for this monumental gaffe tomorrow. And I hope that all of these negatives are able to be overcome and I'm proven wrong.

Go Browns.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

except Weeden has a better arm than Dalton. I feel that Weeden can have a Dalton-like impact, but I think that the improvement from last year will be substantial.

I know he has a better arm than Dalton. I was talking about overall success and impact as a player. Bear in mind, he doesn't have AJ Green to throw to.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I think they'll have a competition for it in camp. And I think Weeden makes Colt look silly.

Interesting take here.

With their first No. 1 pick, the Browns found their featured back in Trent Richardson. I am sold on Richardson, and I believe he will start from Day One.

With their second first-rounder, the Browns made another big splash, drafting Oklahoma State QB Brandon Weeden No. 22 overall.

The Browns need a lot of help on offense, and none of the quarterbacks on the roster had clearly made a case to be the undisputed long-term starter in 2012. Clearly, the Browns believe Weeden can be an NFL starter at the most important position on the field. If he becomes a good starter, then this will be a slam-dunk success of a pick. And even if it fails, you can appreciate the Browns’ logic — their repeated attempts at finding a franchise passer have failed. They need to keep plugging away. Weeden has a strong arm, and his selection implies a stamp of approval from Browns president Mike Holmgren, a very good evaluator of QB talent.

But here’s the thing about Weeden: I'm not completely convinced he's the Week One starter. The West Coast offense isn’t easy to pick up, from all accounts. I’ve been told it takes three years to master. Colt McCoy, who has a year under his belt in the offense, figures to be Weeden’s primary competition in camp, and I would expect this to bring out the best in McCoy.

Now, the Browns could give the job to Weeden, making this argument moot. And if Weeden outplays McCoy — or even just plays him to a draw in the summer — the Browns would likely go with the rookie.

Weeden is no ordinary rookie. He will be 29 in October, and he came to college football only after a stint as a minor-league baseball player. Perhaps his maturity edge will shorten his learning curve.

You would have to believe that the Browns believe it will — and it may. That said, I’m not counting out McCoy just yet, as far as 2012 goes. He’s flashed some ability in his two NFL seasons, and he’s not going to back down.

Or Justin Blackmon.

I'd be ecstatic if he had that impact, but you nailed it. Weeden won't have Aj Green or Gresham. At this point in our rebuilding phase, drafting him seems like a lateral move. With that said, we still have 5 rounds left so we'll see how the rest of the draft unfolds.

Even though multiple sources have stated this won't affect him as a football player?

He doesn't need to grow physically as a player like many rookies do, he's already developed. I see no reason why other aspects of his game can't improve with coaching. Saying otherwise is simply ridiculous.

Yeah, he's the only QB to not come from a pro-style offense. Clearly the Redskins shouldn't have made that move for RG3 then.

I don't think they're infallible, but given their track record I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and not make reactionary judgments.

There are a lot of good players on the board still, including your beloved Ruben Randle. The draft isn't over yet.

The one advantage I will give to Weeden is Trent. He should make things a million times easier for him.

Seriously i'm looking forward to the possibility of the Browns taking Randle tomorrow and watching boobie's head exploded.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I want fleener and hill/randle

Total offense revamp...

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I think Weeden can be a solid player. If he was 22 he would have easily been a top 10 pick. If he gives us 6 years age 28-34 I think you have to be satisfied with that. Richardson will also give us about 6 years. Thomas has about 6 more years. The bottom line is that it is time to start winning. Weeden, Richardson, Thomas, Mack, and Little is not a bad start. Lets add a WR and RT tomorrow and we will be on our way. Fingers crossed.

I would like Weeden more if he wasn't taken at #22

If Colt comes out and proves me wrong I'd be thrilled. I have nothing against the guy, I just think he sucks. That said, while Weeden may not know the offense yet, he at least has the arm to make throws past 5 yards.

Andy Dalton:
58 percent completion percentage
3.9 TD percentage
2.3 INT percentage
6.6 YPA
11.3 YPC
80 QB rating

Colt McCoy:
57 percent completion percentage
2.7 TD percentage
2.4 INT percentage
7.1 YPA
11.7 YPC
74 QB rating

If you switch the two quarterbacks, giving McCoy a combo of Green, Simpson, Gresham and Benson......I think these two QBs are pretty much interchangeable.

If the goal is Andy Dalton, Colt McCoy can ABSOLUTELY be that player.
