Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Brendan Haywood Traded to Cleveland

Don't sleep on Karasev. You always want to put shooters on the floor with Lebron and with Blatt as our coach, you gotta figure Karasev is going to get a fair shot at earning PT.

I agree.. but if I had to keep either Karasev or Zeller, I'd probably keep Zeller.

It's Haywood, not Hayward.

Re: Brendan Haywood Traded to Cleveland

I like that we are willing to spend money for those kinds of things.

I don't want to see Haywood step on the court, though.

Haywood was meant to be a Cav. Don't you want the CLOSURE? Closure is worth a lot.

The problem for LeBron is that his desire to form super teams is a fad that I believe is over, at least for players of his generation. Wade is too old, and Bosh is too inconsistent. Honestly if the Heat preserve their big 3 but don't do much else I think they'll go into a decline similar to that of the bad boy pistons. They went away quickly after being beaten by the Bulls...I think they had 1 or 2 more first round appearances and then were totally gone as they were eclipsed by not only the Bulls, but the Price/Nance/Daugherty Cavs, Bird's Celtics, and even Drazen's Nets...

I'd rather have Spencer Haywood. At least he'd have some good blow.

Re: Brendan Haywood Traded to Cleveland

Teams didn't appear to be willing to deal picks for cash or future picks. There was good talent thru the middle of the 2nd round this year. Don't really like taking on 2 mil for Haywood next season but that was the cost of acquiring another 2nd rounder.

At least he's an expiring contract so they should be able to move him if they absolutely need the capspace this summer.

I thought that Brooklyn bought a Lower pick for a Million Dollars straight up. I still have Bill Simmons ringing in my ear "Hey what would you rather have the kid Brooklyn just drafted or 1,000,000?"

Why is it one or the other? Tend to doubt Blatt would agree. I like Zeller and think when or if he acquires any mental toughness (hopefully from more talent around) he might be a really solid player.

But wouldn't Blatt have had to know Karasev well coaching Russia or was it not the same time?

Please could I have an answer to this question. Everyone here not talks about 2 maxs but we really dont nee that we need 1 max and the ability to afford Love's present contract. Dont we have Bird rights for him after this season if he is traded to us. So we can sign Lequit then sign Kyrie and then sign Love after the season. Is that not correct?

Yeah I see that Brooklyn paid $2 million for the 44th, 59th, and 60th picks. I was expecting more trades last night but it didn't happen.

The Cavs must see value in Hayward's unique contract. Could be a nice trade chip down the line and shouldn't be too difficult to dump this offseason if they had to.

Re: Brendan Haywood Traded to Cleveland

We eat $2 million in salary this year, but Hayward's contract can be traded for someone making $10 million next year, or some type of combination of players that come out to $10 million. So if we were to get a meeting with LeBron this summer, we can point to this contract as a way to bring in someone making $10 million NEXT year when we are over the cap and can only afford the MLE. So in order to round out a roster in 2015, Cleveland could use this massive $10 million contract that can be immediately waived.

IMO this is why the trade was done. The hard part of building a team is depth, is it is so hard to get good players when you are over the cap. Next season with KI new contract we will be over the CAP and only have the MLE and BLE, and min level players. Next summer Haywood would be worth 10 million in a trade, so we could add a player or players up to 10 million, and still have the MLE and BLE available.

Example.

Player 1 - makes $11 million, we could trade Haywood potential 1st or 2nd round player for him. This is a player we would gain without trading a core guy.

Are we 100% postive and confirmed that this large lump sum as a result of his amnesy/buyout is something that carries over to us and can be used in a trade that would benefit the receiving team cap relief wise next offseason? And if so, what about at this trade deadline or would his salary for trade purposes only by the 2 million at any point this season?

That's why I like this Forum. People who actually know, and learn more from each other. I thought I remembered that. Now it means obviously a HUGE deal or is only for one reason, because we know that DG would easily pay 2 million for a pick. They wanted this.
