Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Welp...

I miss the cavs wizards rivalry. So much trash talk, big moments, villains, and we won every year.

Hope we have that again and it looks like it's shaping up to be that way.

Can't wait for durant to get their hopes up and for their dreams to be crushed.

It's going to be a lot like the last Wizards rivalry too. A lot of talking, but ultimately we just wipe the floor with them.

I posted this in the "Adam Silver making it Rain" thread in Around the NBA, but really curious to see how the new TV contracts affects the perception and trade value of Haywoods contract next year. If the new dynamics cause it to be less valuable than it might have been prior to the TV deal announcement, at least we still have the massively valuable Memphis pick as a sweetener.

If we get someone good it will be for Haywoods contract + Dion or TT and maybe the Memphis Pick.

I hope they give Haywood some more minutes in the next couple games. I'd like to see him work out as a rim protector.

Here is Pluto's take-- He's not thrilled so far.

Brendan Haywood looks very, very rusty. He played only three minutes. The 7-footer missed all of last season with a broken foot. He is considered ahead of schedule, as the Cavs didn't even know if he could play at all in training camp. But it's hard to know how much the veteran can help early in the season

I agree with Pluto. I don't know if Haywood is still injured, but he really doesn't look like he has much left.

More important player for the cavs this year

Alex Kirk or Brendan Haywood?

Haywood has looked straight up awful out there. Can't move at all on defense and is worthless on offense. It's not like he was very useful before the injury, either. Kirk has looked better in every way and I'd easily give him minutes over Haywood if needed.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I thought Haywood played better than I expected. He has no foot quickness and a lot of rust. But all he will be asked to do is play maybe 8 minutes, block a couple of shots, and give some hard fouls.
To me, it looked like he was shedding some of that rust tonight.

Agreed. At first, he was pretty awful. As time went on, though, he started blocking shots, defending and rebounding and, yes, scoring. Give him time. He's a role player, but can be useful against some of the bigs like the Cavs faced tonight.

Really? I thought he looked pretty decent. He's obviously a little rusty, but had a nice little turnaround, blocked a shot (or maybe 2?), and was in good rebounding position on both ends (I admittedly didn't see a portion of the game, but from the time I saw, he was in good position).

Defensively, it doesn't look like he's quite at full strength yet.

The important thing to remember is that it's gonna take time for him to get back in game shape & produce like he's capable of. Not that he'd produce a ton, but you get what I'm saying. I think today he looked pretty decent, all things considered.

For the record, the Cavs are very confident they'll get good production out of him this season.

Tonight, Haywood played almost 20 minutes, which is more than I thought we would see in 2014, and I thought his minutes in the 3rd quarter were very effective. I thought he pretty much neutralized Hibbert, especially in the 2nd half, which is the exact role the Cavs would want him to play. Yeah, he was sloppy on offense, especially in the first half, but I thought tonight's game was a very solid step for Haywood. Seemed like he started to trust himself more after halftime.

I'm not saying he solves the Cavs issues at defensive center, but his performance showed some positive signs. He doesn't look like a limping disaster out there. I think Indiana should be more worried about Hibbert, to be honest, considering what they're paying him.
