Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe the owners should agree to take less profit and then we could have more to spend on FA's.

Its just so funny when the fans/media suggest the players should take more than a team would offer them but NEVER think to ask the owners to take less of a profit or cut.

And before you say Tim Duncan, he has made the 3rd most money of any basketball player in history and did not take his first pay reduction until he was 34 years old and coming off 5-6 straight years of not being in the finals.
When did I suggest anything?

The list is getting short...

We may end up with a TPE instead of a player.

I wonder if we don't end up trading for a guy who makes 4-6 million per year. This would give us one depth addition before the season begins and should also leave us with TPE for the remainder of the difference between Haywoods contract and the contract of the one guy we acquire.

So it's possible for example that we trade Haywood for someone like Collison or ZaZa + second round pick and a TPE of around 5-6 million.

Not the big splash we were hoping for but an immediate depth contributor, a future asset in the 2nd rd pick, and a TPE that can be used alone for its value or combined with a player for a larger value at the trade deadline.

After their draft strategy, I'm just not sure I see them not using Haywood to acquire at least on player addition.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this today, but Windy was on WKNR and he brought up the name George Hill. Said the Cavs were trying to shop a good package of Haywood with their 1st rounder for him during the draft.

Also, I recall someone bringing up Tyreke Evans. I have always thought that Evans is a cancer on a team, but the LeBron effect could take a guy like that to a higher level (see: JR).

Sorry. I shouldn't have quoted you. Was just jumping off the general idea that gets thrown out by fans of many different teams.

Not sure if would call him a cancer. It seems Evans suffered from all the hype surrounding him. I remember hearing the LBJ comparisons the year he won Rookie Of The Year but his stats have decreased since. Playing in Sac-Town, arguably the worst-run organization in the entire NBA, probably didn't help.

I thought 'reke had a pretty damn good year. At least statistically anyways, he was putting up Iguodala type numbers and was a big part of a big turnaround.

Only watched a few games though.

So we were asking Indiana if they like to get raped?

Apparently got a stern no.

I do remember the hype that came with Tyreke in his rookie season. He looked like a jack-of-all-trades type player. The Sacramento team never took off, but I don't hold that against him all too much. Constant turnover... The reason I haven't been a big Tyreke fan is because I think his turnovers/mistakes hamstring his teams. As he's not afraid to take ownership of a possession at anytime, it sometimes works against him. Honestly, I am not sure Tyreke had as big an impact on the Pelicans as Anthony Davis did on him.

Maybe it just sticks out more because I notice it when it happens, but again, I do think he's a candidate to be very good with LeBron. Guy needs a steady organization for certain.

This comment let's me know you have no clue how a salary cap works. The owners could take ZERO profit and still not have any more to spend on FA's.

Sorry. Bad choice of a key word by me.

I meant of revenue. Not of profit.

It was just a point about the ridiculous notion of trying to shame players into taking less money for team building purposes. It gets brought up all the time by many fanbases and you never here people clamoring for the owners to raise the BRI a few percentage points so that they have more money to help better build their super team.

As far as the salary cap and CBA in general, I'd like to think I've got a pretty good grip on it relative to the majority of people, but I did, in efforts to make a hasty reply, incorrectly insert the word "profits" in place of "revenue"

makes a lot of sense. Hill had a good year, is in his prime, is a very good defender and on a good contract. those are also the reasons why i don't see Indy parting with him anytime soon (unless they get a lot in return). but good to hear that we're targeting that type of player. Avery Bradley is a similar player but the source (Kotoch?) isn't credible unfortunately...

The players can do whatever they want, but if I was the player and was already R I C H, I would take less money, so my team could be better.

BTW, how would we have more to spend on FA if the owners took less revenue?

I am mixed on Evans. I am not sure he'd work out here. He has talent, he's a guard with size that can score and be a playmaker. All things we could use.

But he's not a very good shooter, and ideally, in result I am not really sure how well he'd fit here.

He wouldn't be my first choice.

I'd be very interested in Hill though.
