Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
so about 22 days left.... Hope this gets resolved soon.
I'm getting the feeling we're going to end up using his contract in a trade for the TPE. The Joe Johnson trade seems dead. If we were really going to use it in Nick Young Or Jamaal Crawford it would have been done by now. The lakers/clippers would love to get rid of those contracts and wouldnt hesitate. Some of the other names thrown around dont seem plausible. Dont think the clippers want to trade JJ Reddick, and I dont think we really want DeRozan or Markieff Morris.

Looking at contracts around the league, and teams who would want to clear space, it just doesnt look like anything matches up real well right now. With the trade taking this long, it seems more like wishful thinking on the cavs part that something will pop up.
Have got 3 weeks to get something done. Just get the sense that this contract is not in as high of demand as some have speculated. Important to note that we would need to give an asset (Usman, Khan) to make a team want to give us a TPE, no one is just going to give it to us as a favor. Then there is probably at best a 50 50 sho we can work it into a deal by the trade deadline honestly, many of these end up unused. Still hoping we can add a solid bench player in the rotation and that the TPE is last resort.

The most shocking thing about this off-season has been the amount of people who don't know how to spell Redick.

Why wouldn't we want Demar DeRozen? He would be perfect for what we are looking for... SG/SF, young, not long removed from being an all-star. Would take him in a heartbeat.

I'm not crazy about Crawford or Swaggy P (especially Swaggy) but at the end of the day isn't something better than nothing? I mean, I would rather have one of them, and resign JR, then waste the Haywood contract. Crawford especially is far better than anyone we could sign as a free agent for the vet min at this point.

The Raptors aren't just going to give him away. He has value...

I would hope that we could convince Denver to part with Wilson Chandler for anybody we obtain for Haywood + whatever else.

Yeah the Derozan stuff was just speculation based on him wanting a max deal next season, and the Raptors trying to get Mathews. There's been speculation in T.O media about him possibly being traded, not many believe he will be there next season.

Now that David Lee is off the trade market, and Mathews signed elsewhere, I don't imagine it is even possible. David Lee to the Raptors was just speculation on my part, because they need a PF in the worst way. I do find it weird that Boston now has 26.5 million tied up to PF's this year.

A TPE isn't necessarily a bad thing to get imo. As always, there will be teams at the deadline who regret their FA signings, or teams facing down the barrel of a rebuild. I would imagine especially this off seasons FA's, given the crazy spending on them. Sometimes guys just don't work out the way a team hopes, and a TPE could be valuable to help a team out.

Another way to look at Haywood not being traded yet, is that it is a big move like Derozan (just an example), and the trade might jeopardize the teams free agent signings, and they want the signature on the dotted line first.

I think we need to lower our expectations. I would love someone like Wilson Chandler or PJ Tucker, but why would Denver give away Wilson Chandler/Danilo Gallinari or Phoenix give away PJ Tucker Toronto give away DeMar DeRozan?

Denver are rebuilding and its not like they are over the tax limit. Same with Toronto, where DeRozan is a vital piece for them as he was part of the recruiting team when they were after DeMarre Carroll and LaMarcus Aldridge. PJ Tucker is a starter for Suns and there have been no talks about him being moved.

Our best bet is Joe Johnson. Brooklyn can get under the tax limit with the Haywood + Andy trade for Joe Johnson. That is why it is realstic and possible. Teams who are looking to rebuild and are under the tax limit won't be giving away their best players just to dump Haywood's contract.

but why would Denver give away Wilson Chandler?

I will never let go of my dream of acquiring Wilson Chandler

You are shocked? People still can't spell the Browns' owner's last name and he's been in the news for like 2 years straight. :chuckle:

J-a-m-e-s

How'd I do?

I agree with those about DeRozen 100%. Which is why I commented that I don't know why the Cavs wouldn't want him, as if he was a realistic possibility, and that the Raptors want to part with him. Now that the main free agents have signed, and they didn't choose Toronto, there is no reason why they would want to give him up for absolutely nothing.

At this point, we have to accept it for what it is... the top free agents didn't go to teams that would've been viable trading partners with us on the Haywood contract. Unless Griff pulls a rabbit out of a hat between now and the end of the month, and we get someone that we currently are unaware about, I've made my peace with Crawford. The guy isn't as bad as some on here make him out to be. He's like a more sane JR Smith with better ball handling skills.

Still would love Joe Johnson but that trade seems dead, at least for now.

Windy said over the radio that we could get Johnson if we wanted but were exploring other options. Hanging my hope on that.
