Browns 2015 Roster Moves

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The fact they're willing to cut Phil Taylor makes me excited for the DL.

Des Bryant looked like a manchild for most of the pre-season. Shelton has been a steady force, despite the Browns easily picking up better value in the fifth round.

Meder, Cooper, Hughes all impressing.

Really think this defense has the most potential of any since the return.
Love the new-found optimism, b00bs.

Now, let's hear your take on the offen-... Actually let's hold off for now.

They weren't. Cooper, Winn, Hughes, and now Meder have all been significantly better than the aforementioned.

I'm completely fine with scrapping the nose tackle corp that headed the worst run defense in the league last year (Taylor, Kitchen, Rubin).

I thought all those guys were 3-4 DEs though, but obviously the Browns feel they or someone else can play NT.

I agree that I have no problem with them clearing house at that position.

I think they take a step forward.

Albeit a small one. The offensive line is just too good not to support a running game in some capacity. That alone should make them capable.

Having reliable targets like Hartline and Bowe can't hurt.

It's not like Julio Jones would've become the $75 million WR that he is now catching passes from the motley collection of short bus Browns QB's.

I remember puking when they picked him in the first round.

Don't really think Taylor was a bust. I think his health and the strength of our line played a big part in this. A lot of teams are lined up for him, that's not a guy that's been useless.

He should be honored compared to some of our most recent first round busts.

I love how we as Browns fans ALWAYS have to come out with some type of pro-spin, no there is nothing positive to say about Phil Taylor being released. Just another bust to add to the collection.

I've experienced the exact opposite. Browns fans always find something to complain about. It's how "Woe Is Me Cleveland" became a thing..... It's why I don't partake in the practice of perpetually poking fun at them.

A bust to me, is guys like Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson. Guys that clearly sucked.

Phil Taylor doesn't belong in that category. No one is proclaiming ring of honor for him, it ultimately didn't work out in the end. But if he stays healthy, he's definitely a productive player for a team.

I'm not sure Phil really fits in here, and his playing time would have been cut down anyways. It's a move that makes sense for both parties.

Fun Fact..

The Browns don't a have single player that they drafted from 2011 on the roster now.

Phil Taylor had the size of a nose tackle, but had the hand placement and type of game for a 4-3 defensive tackle. He was solid, if unspectacular in 2013 under Horton. Last year was a nightmare, with his knee injury requiring more surgery and minimal snaps played. We might be talking about damaged goods here.

I don't want to demonize Taylor, he is not 100% and he made the type of salary you would expect from a cornerstone of the defense rather than backup nose tackle. I still don't understand why they opted in on his contract this summer. That money could have helped elsewhere a few months ago.

Some of that has to do with scheme change too though. Phil Taylor and sheard were drafted to be in the 3-4. Wasted picks because of scheme change and they then needed to use other picks to replace those guys for a 4-3.

It's deeper than that. Scheme change has to do with coaching/front-office turnover. That turnover is due do inept personnel (and ownership) more often than not, but it's a problem that if continued, it'll perpetuate what we've been experiencing. There's most likely no coach or GM that's going to be a lynchpin for instant success, it takes some time.

Completely agree. I think the ownership should firmly say this team is a 3-4 or 4-3 and never budge from that. This teams strengths are in the OL and secondary, something that doesn't change much between schemes throughout the league.
