They're creating a logo to appeal to younger fans. A guy they have never heard of from the 50's in a fedora should do it.
I'm 27 and know exactly who it is; my kids will too. He's one of the fathers of football as we know it today. The reason people don't know who he is is because he wasn't captured on a camera during the NFL films era.
Moreover, people should know who he is. Just like they know who Vince Lombardi is. To say it isn't similar or that Lombardi is more important is too ignorant a take to be considered when re-creating a logo.
This dissent falls flat on me; plenty of fans know who Paul Brown is. The ones that don't need a lesson in football history if they're going to call themselves fans of it.
