CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – There is no more closely guarded secret right now in Berea than the new uniforms for the Cleveland Browns.
Not even who they might take at No. 12 or 19 on April 30 is as closely guarded as the new uniforms. Select team employees and players have seen the 3 new jerseys, 3 new pairs of pants and redesigned helmet, but everyone is sworn to secrecy.

Over the weekend “leaked” pictures of the alleged new look hit social media like a firestorm, but the authenticity of them is in doubt. The reason is simple: retailers will not start receiving the new jerseys for sale until after they are unveiled next Tuesday evening at the Cleveland Convention Center.

The Browns spent nearly 2 years working closely with the NFL and Nike on a whole new look for the team, which has seen just minor tweaks to the uniforms over the decades. It is anticipated that what will be unveiled next week will be a radical new look for the team, hence the angst and excitement that is building with fans.
In an effort to prevent leaks from retailers, the new merchandise will not be available for purchase around town immediately. However, fans anxious to get their hands on the new threads won’t be left out in the cold.
The Browns will have a portable team shop at the Convention Center set up for selected season ticket members who were invited for the event to purchase them onsite and the team shop at FirstEnergy Stadium will open for a few hours after the reveal for the general public.

If you won’t be downtown next Tuesday night, the team’s website ClevelandBrowns.com will also be ready to take orders for the 3 new jerseys.
The “orange carpet” event will run from 6-8 p.m. with the Browns television partner, WEWS NewsChannel 5, broadcasting a 1-hour long special of the reveal from 7-8 p.m. at the Convention Center.

This makes sense if they are really that worried about keeping the surprise of the reveal.

People are going to buy them whenever they are available (unless they are awful), so there's no rush to have them in stores.
 
Not to agree with Daryl Ruiter, but there is absolutely no way Nike has sent these to any retailers yet.

Shipments from Nike will be down the day of the reveal, not a week in advance.

Nike is absolutely nuts for keeping these under wraps.
 
I'm pretty luke warm on the leaked unis.

If that's what they are, I'll be pretty disappointed.

There's just nothing inspiring about them IMO.

Guess we'll see in another week.
 
I think the orange uniforms looked pretty nice, the white ones I'm a little concerned about. I know they probably wanted the numbers orange since there was already a lot of brown in the set and they're trying to incorporate more orange but I'm not sure how they will look on the whites, though they could grow on me eventually.

Also, a couple flaws with the helmet. 1. Like obviously stated, the script isn't right. 2. Although it's matte, it has the wrong orange. It's using the previous orange and not the more "vibrant, energetic" orange. The third one is the miss-matching in shades of browns between the stripe and the face mask. They just look completely different.

I will admit it looks much better than hanging on the rack in that department store.

FWIW, I was sent three photos of each of the jerseys (I think the fan versions). They were generally similar to what's above. I did not see anything other than the tops.

- The shoulder stripes on the white jersey have a brown outline (like the helmet) with orange in the middle.
- Numbers on the brown jersey are orange, on both the shoulder and the front, same with the white (as you see it above).
- The shadowing of the numbers is prevalent.
- "Cleveland" is written in orange on the Brown jersey, brown on the white jersey and white on the orange jersey.

Edit:

The Browns did a "chronicling" of the jersey from past to present. You'll notice that a lot of the photos have the stripes down the arm, horizontally aligned, not on the shoulder. Could help explain why the striping is horizontal on these new ones.

Sorry, but I don't believe any talk of the jerseys. Nike and the Browns have gone to extreme lengths to make sure no one sees them. We may have ideas but I'm not buying any pictures that are put out. It's nice to be surprised every once and a while.

Personally I really hope the leak is a fake jersey. Sure these renderings look better than the Discount Drug Mart version, but what bothers me the most is the horizontal stripes of the shoulders kind of clashing with the vertical stripe on the helmet. Just kinda looks goofy to me...
 
What would really be cool if the uniform is made of the same material as the one used in the tale: The Emperors New Clothes
