Browns Free Agency 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, it's not ALL about money and playing time.

Cleveland is clearly not a major free agent destination for alot of guys, most of the free agents they get have contacts to the staff or front office.

True, I have been counting on some depth trades or free agency signings connected to DeFilippo, Roper and Joker to ease the transition to the new passing philosophy and terminology.

Keep an eye on Connor Vernon and Stevie Johnson who played receiver with connections to several new coaches.

Every year around this time, I am blown away that ANY free agents are willing to come back to the Browns. It doesn't make any sense.

How do you go BACK to the worst franchise in sports?

A new logo and uniforms, man. Keep up.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Couple items on the Browns' free agency process out of the NFL scouting combine:

i

HoyerQB pursuit: There are no firm updates on the Brian Hoyer picture, save this: Both sides are waiting for GM Ray Farmer and Brian Hoyer to meet face-to-face. That meeting has placed contract talks on pause.

Hoyer said publicly he's awaiting the results of the NFL's investigation into Ray Farmer's game-day texting, which could involve Hoyer. It's possible feelings will be hurt. If Hoyer is to stay in Cleveland, an air-clearing talk with Farmer could be the catalyst.

Farmer told reporters about Hoyer that it takes "two sides" to make a deal, which signals the Browns' willingness to bring Hoyer back -- at the right price. That might not be Hoyer's price.

i

ShortsWR pursuit: Wide receiver Cecil Shorts III is interested in returning home to Cleveland, which has the free agent on its radar as March 10 approaches.

The 6-foot Shorts, who went to Collinwood High School and Mount Union, finished last season with 53 catches for 557 yards and one touchdown in 13 games with Jacksonville, and also dealt with a hamstring injury during the season. Shorts' biggest production came in 2012, with nearly 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns.

At receiver, Shorts would be a complementary piece to a No. 1 receiver, which the Browns might get in the first round of the draft. Minor injuries have affected Shorts' ability to play a full season, but he can give an offense a jolt.

If Shorts can stay healthy, he would really take advantage of the stricter hands off rules. He is only a six footer, but he is slippery on deeper routes. Hopefully the Browns are talking to him about a cheaper deal since his hamstrings keep him off the field. I still want my plus size #1 receiving option.

It's like wanting the Cavs to get a legit center... at some point the Browns will get that #1 with size.. some day

Based on the timeline it took the Cavs to get a center and the amount of time the Browns still haven't found a QB, roughly 37 years we will get a #1 receiver with size.

I'm all for Ginn coming home, but I hope they don't plan on him being anything more than an older version of Travis Benjamin. Great returner, and he would be another asset in building a strong locker room.

FIFY.. I do have concerns about his versatility on this roster. Feel like the Browns are going to want a guy who can play receiver/both sides of special teams.

I completely agree, but if the Browns could find room for a kick return specialist in Marlon Moore who didn't return punts last year, they should be able to plug in Ginn for punt and kick return duty. If it costs 2 million a year for solid play on returns with Ginn, its money well spent. I think the trust is gone in Benjamin as a punt returner and I am hopeful he isn't on the roster by August.

A.J. Hawk was released today. As long as we are doing the OSU reunion tour any chance we would have interest as veteran depth at middle linebacker?

I would think someone is going to pay him starter money. Wouldn't he be third on the depth chart here?

Plus, he's pretty slow and declining. No need for him here.
