Jim O'Neil is Frisco's Problem at DC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Browns hire Jim O'Neil as DC.. OC still TBA

Pleased with the offensive staff if this is true. Especially Loggains. Think his work with Locker is very very underrated.

EDIT: LaConfora said he is on vacation. Hence why nothing is done.

Re: Browns hire Jim O'Neil as DC.. OC still TBA

Good hire if they can actually get a respectable quarterback to fit his system.

Zone blocking scheme is money.

Re: Browns hire Jim O'Neil as DC.. OC still TBA

I liked the coaching hire given the options. I like the staff a good amount. Now, will I like the QB?

Re: Browns hire Jim O'Neil as DC.. OC still TBA

Anyone think they purposely waited this long and announced it while the HOF voting is taking place so Grossi couldn't report the story for hours? Probably not but would be funny if they did.

Re: Browns hire Jim O'Neil as DC.. OC still TBA

Safe to assume we will use a zone blocking scheme going forward.

Joe Thomas is plug and play
Mitchell Schwartz is just ok as far as athleticism. This regime wasn't very high on him and I'm curious to see what they do at the other tackle spot.
Alex Mack, isn't super athletic but he'd probably work. At top of the market center money I'm not sure he's the fit.
Lauvao- was terrible last year and is a lead footed guard. He does not fit the system
Greco- pretty athletic guy and I bet he'd be a solid fit
Pinkston- Again, not very athletic so not sure if he fits
Gilkey- He could work. Depends on if he's good enough to play in the NFL

Lauvao is probably the worst fit as of now. I'm not sure Mack is going to get that top dollar if he doesn't fit perfectly which he's not perfect for the scheme IMO. I can see them adding a tackle and center this offseason. Also depends on Gilkey's development if they add a guard to the mix too.

Re: Browns hire Jim O'Neil as DC.. OC still TBA

ESPN filed a different (and somewhat contradictory) report, apparently drawing on multiple sources with different perspectives.

I'm going to wait to change the thread title...

---

The Cleveland Browns will hire Kyle Shanahan as their new offensive coordinator, sources confirmed to ESPN.

A high-ranking team source told ESPN that Shanahan "did well" in his interview for the position but also claimed that the Browns still plan to conduct more interviews.

"We have interviewed four people," the team source told ESPN. "[The] plan now is still to interview either one or two more. Would be surprised if that changes. He did well, and has a real chance, but others have also done well."

Shanahan had been the offensive coordinator for the last four seasons under his father, Mike Shanahan, with the Washington Redskins.

I can't wait to buy a Johhny Football browns jersey.

Joe Thomas is plug and play Love having JT as he fits basically any scheme. Worry a little bit though as he had his worst Pro year this past season, but I'll take that with salt as our entire O-line struggled for most part

Mitchell Schwartz is just ok as far as athleticism. This regime wasn't very high on him and I'm curious to see what they do at the other tackle spot. Being that there are some big holes on line (I don't see Mack resigning here), we keep MS as he's still on rookie contract and make him compete. I think his athleticism will be fine as he's no mauler and more a technician, he just didn't fit the scheme last year

Alex Mack, isn't super athletic but he'd probably work. At top of the market center money I'm not sure he's the fit. I don't see him resigning with us just due to us not matching any offer he gets (Ward is a bigger priority to re-sign then we also have Haden next year who will get a nice chunk of cap), we'll get a nice comp pick, but we do need a C, think they'll go Mid-Level FA route along with a day 3 pick.

Lauvao- was terrible last year and is a lead footed guard. He does not fit the system Absolutely the worst player on our line last year, being a FA it'll be easy to not re-sign him.

Greco- pretty athletic guy and I bet he'd be a solid fitActually was one of the better lineman last year and is actually pretty good. He'll compete for either guard spot

Pinkston- Again, not very athletic so not sure if he fits I think he's underrated a little athletically. Not overwhelming. He didn't play much last year, being out of shape. As someone who had a blood clot myself (leg, not lung though) it's very hard to stay in physical shape while taking the medications (bloodthinners) for it. You literally can't do jack shit as a bruise could kill you if not watched closely. I like his chances to compete for one of the guard spots if he is in shape next year.

Gilkey- He could work. Depends on if he's good enough to play in the NFL I like this kid's upside, but I don't think he'll be ready to compete for a spot next year. I could be wrong as he's pretty athletic for a guy his size, so he could surpise

We need 3-4 guys to compete for starting spots. Funny (not in a good way) 2 seasons ago most thought we had our O-line concreted in and now we might be looking at a complete overhaul there outside of 2 spots.

This hire isn't any indication Johnny Football will be a Brown, though I agree his zone blocking scheme would be ideal for someone of Johnny Manziel's ilk. People forget Shanahan's system with the Texans was largely traditional, he's not a "read-option" guy, he just did what all good coaches do, evolved with the personnel he was dealt with the 'Skins. Still think they're trying to drum up enough interest in Manziel so they don't have to burn the late 1st or 2nd round pick to get their Bortles or Bridgewater. We really need a RB with this offense, it sets up everything else.

God Teddy would be the perfect fucking fit for this guy.

God Teddy would be the perfect fucking fit for this guy.

Teddy would be the best bet no matter who the coach is. But yes, I have confidence Shanahan could get the best out of him.
