Browns "reboot" coaching search

I'm generally terrified of guys near or over 60 that have never held an NFL/college head coaching job before. Coaches change every year... there's usually a reason these guys haven't been hired for any opening over the years. Of all the head coaches currently in the NFL, the highest starting age for a new hire without NFL/college experience is 51.

Interviewing two guys who are older than that in Trestman (57) and Arians (60) scares the crap out of me. We don't need another Romeo. If we can't get the established stud, there has to be some young, hungry superstar assistant out there... right?

We drafted a 30 year old QB. I don't think age is going to play a role in the decision. :chuckles:

I am curious about what happened that he left Browns, that said, I still trust Bernies judgement on coaching. His addiction demons aside, Bernie has a good head for football, just a bad head for his personal life. So, Bernies recommendation pulls allot of weight with me.

Anyone know if this guy is an asshole and thats why with success his coaching jobs have been so short?

I can't speak specifically to that, Lee, but I do think part of the reason it took him so long to get HC consideration is because he was never really an outspoken kind of guy. He's very mellow, almost soft spoken. When looking at him from a leadership perspective, it may be percieved by some as a weakness.

It may haveonly been the CFL, but his shown ability to lead a team to as much success as he did has to mean something, imo. it has to say something about his leadership abilities. I do find it somewhat interesting he penned a book a few years ago called "PERSEVERANCE:Life Lessons on Leadership and Teamwork". It seems he always had to battle stereotypes and doubters. I'm curious to know the contents of the book and any explanations they may offer to many of our questions about him.

I haven't heard Brian Billick brought up. Is he not interested in coaching again yet?

What a journey this has been.

So I wonder if Haslam is in Chicago? If so, for what?

im almost done following until a coach is named

The team needs to start confirming who they're interviewing like other teams are

Do they even know what they're doing? It just sounds like we're flinging shit around.

Its not very long, but it is distinguished. Both were excellent coaches and Levy was an offensive inovator for his time. I would take 4 super bowl appearances in a row at this point.

Don't forget Bud Grant went to 4 himself. That's only 2 coaches, but there are 8 Super Bowl appearances between the 2 of them, and as most NFL fans know, they are all losses.

This whole journey of hiring a head coach is turning into a clusterf***. Especially if we are getting all of these false reports of meeting with coaches.

I'm done with this. Not worth trying to keep up with...

Hopefully we find a HC and GM soon. I don't like having no direction with the draft approaching.

I can't believe we cleaned house and had Chip Kelly as the only plan.

WHOOOOOOPS!
