I'll let you believe that. The Buckeyes don't represent me in any way, shape, or form. I didn't grow up in Columbus or anywhere near there, so they don't symbolize where I came from.

I don't dislike them, I'm just indifferent to them.

I'm an Akron Zip and proud of it.

I liked everything about that post, except the last line ;)

OHIO STATE, represents the STATE OF OHIO. If you can't see that then like I said there's something wrong with you. As a kid do you dream of playing football at Kent State or Akron? No. You dream of playing football for THE Ohio State Buckeyes. I don't care what you say, Akron is never winning a National Championship. Ohio State will, and while they're doing it, they're representing THE ENTIRE STATE OF OHIO, not just the people who attended that school. Thank you and good day.

This is kind of a random tangent, but does it piss anyone off when people tell you that you should root for a team from the same conference? That makes me so mad. Like, I couldn't give a shit less what the rest of the Big Ten teams do in the tournament or during bowl season. Hell, I love to root against the big boys from the rest of the B1G.

I'll cheer for the following teams in that situation:
Northwestern (hell yeah..underdog)
Iowa
Nebraska
Minnesota
Michigan St.

I can't cheer for Wisconsin though, bielema and bo ryan come off as assholes. Nor can I cheer for Michigan in anyway or form.

TOSU BBall on the other-hand? Fuck Matta, Fuck "The Thad five" thst made them a team that contends for the big ten title, and fuck the entire "Non-Ohio" roster. NOT ONE KID ON THAT ENTIRE ROSTER IS FROM NEOHIO, NOT. FUCKING. ONE.

Well, is it a "Non-Ohio" roster or a "Non-NE Ohio" roster?

You claimed "Non-Ohio", but you're very obviously wrong, as Sullinger, Craft, Buford, Jordan Sibert, J.D Weatherspoon, and Alex Rogers are all from Ohio. (6/13). And nevermind that they just lost Lauderdale (Solon), Diebler (Sandusky), Lighty (Cleveland), and Days (Richmond Heights) after last season.

less than half the roster is from ohio, and I'm struggling with the others.

you don't get the vibe that you get, when say, Ted Ginn and Troy Smith were lighting things up with that roster. I mean, Diebler? Dude was a dork.

Um, last I checked, you didn't mention that there was other criteria other than being from Ohio...

You know what though, for as much as I hate Kent State and you probably hate Akron, there's at least (I think) a mutual respect there.

And no, I never dreamed about playing for Ohio State as a kid, and Ohio State represents Columbus, Ohio State University, and anyone who chooses to be a fan of the team's athletic programs. They do not represent the state of Ohio as a whole.

You might not care what I say, but can you just look at the picture above?

Congrats on your soccer championship. I'm sure you were there every home game cheering them on.

:uhh:

Actually, I was at most...I'm sure you're at every Buckeyes game, because that's how we measure fandom, correct?

By the way, does either of our game attendance records have any impact on you being completely wrong on this?

I was at most...does have any impact on you still being wrong?

I'm not wrong. Akron represents one city. Ohio State represents the State as the most prestigious University in the the entire state.

Alright dude...I'm not going to go back and forth with you on this. If you believe Ohio State represents everyone in the state of Ohio, more power to you. If you believe Ohio State is the most prestigious college in Ohio, again, more power to you (National rankings suggest Case Western holds that title).

Ohio State represents its students, alumni, fans of the athletic programs, and Columbus, Ohio.

We can agree to disagree. Have a good night.

1) What school did you graduate from?

2) To what degree do you cheer/not cheer for Ohio State?

3) Why or why don't you?

1) Ohio University

2) Very, very little

3) Family is not from Ohio, was raised on professional sports and the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament. I don't really follow college football collectively. I don't go to OSU, and have only been to Columbus three times (one for a school trip in 7th grade, twice flying out to and from Memphis last week).

1) What school did you graduate from?

I didn't graduate from Kent, but I grew up a block off campus (I could see front campus from my bedroom window) and spent thousands of dollars in tuition, books and parking tickets there (as well as put myself in hock for the foreseeable future.) I'm paid in and then some. It's my school and my hometown team.

2) To what degree do you cheer/not cheer for Ohio State?

I root for Ohio State in football first and foremost. I developed a deep disdain for Kent State football at some point because it's a money pit that never wins anything. (I saw my first game at Dix Stadium when I was 8, btw.) That program has been finding ways to lose pretty much since I was born. And the structure of FBS football makes the MAC in general irrelevant anyway. I've been watching Buckeye football since I was a little kid, my big brother and my dad root for the Buckeyes in football, it's ingrained. If Kent plays Ohio State in football I root for Ohio State.

Basketball-wise Kent is my school. If Kent plays Ohio State in basketball (and they would have whooped their asses in 2002) I root for Kent. I like to see Ohio State winning in basketball, though. But basketball is different froim football if you root for a so-called mid-major. The structure of CBB gives schools like Kent (and Akron) an opportunity to play for a national championship. Granted, neither of those schools will ever win one- but it's the opportunity that matters.

(I always root for the MAC in the Tournament, fwiw. I have no love for the Bobcats but I pulled like hell for them to beat Carolina.)

3) Why or why don't you?

See above.

:)

No doubt. A lot of friends from my hometown went there, and it's kind of like some crosstown thing.

I can't stand seeing you guys win the mac tourney, but I love it when you guys win in other events, and in football, and I'm sure that's mutual.

In a perfect world, it should be us two, and no one else dominating NEOhio recruiting! :).
