Building a Gaming PC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The trick with Microsoft is every other operating system they make is good. I would expect windows 9 to be good.

The only game I know of that tends to run a little better on windows 8 is battlefield 4.

Windows 7 runs that Game fine though and it is what I use.

This is more true than many people know...

Dos 2.0 - failed
Dos 3.1 - succeeded
Dos 4.0 - failed
Dos 5.0 - succeeded
Dos 6.0 - failed
Dos 6.2 - succeeded
Windows 3.0 - failed
Windows 3.1 - succeeded
Windows 95 - failed
Windows 98 - succeeded
Windows ME - failed
Windows XP - succeeded
Windows Vista - failed
Windows 7 - succeeded
Windows 8 - failed

The only way to make sense of this is that every other release is basically an attempt to probe the market. Windows 8 was an attempt to see if Microsoft could consolidate it's operating system platform to save R&D costs (one OS to rule them all). But it didn't work. Windows is the primary development, business, and workstation operating system in the world; and for some silly reason, Microsoft forgot that. They are so fearful of Apple and Google that they are trying to get ahead of the curve, without being innovative, but simply by lazily smashing concepts together and hoping for the best.

Windows 9 is already in development btw. Wondering if it will be their old Project Singularity or just the same old rehashed b.s. they've been dishing since 2002.

Gour, need some SSD advice.

Is the 840 EVO (250 GB) worth $30 more than the PNY XLR8 (240GB)? $130 vs $110, respectively

specifically, this sammy and this PNY

went with the EVO. My rig is basically done now... maybe later in the year ill give it to my GF and use it as an excuse to build another :king:

I was hoping to use this excuse via my gf eventually as well, but she's already about to order a pc through Avatar Gaming.

She's getting a rig built around an i5-4570 and a gtx 770 with 8 gigs of ram for 800 bucks. I have to admit I'm extremely proud and a tad jealous.

Yes, EVO is better. More IOPS, better chipset, more durable, better manufacturer. Samsung 840 Pro/Evo SSDs trump all. These drives are so reliable you will find them in most high-end server SSD builds. Think about that for a second.

thanks Gour. Got my PC all set up with SSD for winders and games with HDD for media. Would be playing GTA with it right now, but summer league! lol

Hey guys,

I'm looking at Gaming PC's as well, and while I don't really know if I want to go through the hassle of building one, I found this deal through Best Buy and all my computer-savvy friends told me this is a good deal for the money.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-de...9092115758&skuId=3535128&st=asus i5&cp=1&lp=5

Thoughts? I'm close to pulling the trigger on it, but want to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck.

its no hassle at all to build your own, its seriously like Legos. Especially if you use PCPart picker...

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($185.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($105.91 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($69.97 @ TigerDirect)
Storage: Western Digital RE3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.00 @ Amazon)
Video Card: PNY GeForce GTX 760 2GB Enthusiast Edition Video Card ($219.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Rosewill Galaxy-03 ATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $685.83
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Ok the bestbuy deal really isnt bad at all. You get an extra GB of GPU RAM, bluetooth and WiFi, disc drive for $186 more than what i put up in PCPart picker

The real difference though is that if you just took a budget of $800 and picked all your own components, you could get a much better PC, and it would be "your own"

for example...
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($115.98 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($19.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston Blu Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($71.88 @ NCIX US)
Storage: PNY XLR8 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($99.99 @ Micro Center)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X 3GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($269.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Azza CSAZ-206 ATX Mid Tower Case ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $697.80
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

$700 gets you a better GPU, an SSD, Crossfire capability, a better PSU, probably better RAM, a cooler case, etc

If you're serious about gaming on PC, it really is worth it to build your own. Not only for the cheaper cost, but the knowledge you gain about dealing with hardware. You might want to upgrade your rig eventually and you'll need to know what goes where and how to connect it. I had pretty much no knowledge of PC hardware when I started and I was surprised at how easy it was to put together.

God damn have Corsair power supplies come down in price...

I still run a TX650, and it looks like it's only $95 if you can still find one for sale.

That's what I'm using, got it in January of this year when I ordered a case and video card. Great so far, and it was cheap.

I just saw the cx models at like 30-40 bux. But looks like my TX model is rated a lot higher. Will be switching to a 1000w next build.

i have a CX430(450?) it was hella cheap and Corsair actually gave me my rebate, the only part of my build that did lol

finally ordered some clip on mics and another 120mm case fan, wanted one for the front of my case

Anybody know a good cheap gaming mouse ($35 or less)?
