Building a Gaming PC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anybody know a good cheap gaming mouse ($35 or less)?

i use this and love it
http://www.amazon.com/SHARKK®-Progr...406239244&sr=1-1&keywords=sharkk+gaming+mouse

i do have to add though that the rubber on the scroll wheel started slipping (its like a rubber piece on a hard plastic wheel) but i just opened the mouse, pushed the rubber wheel off a bit, put glue on it and let it sit for 10 mins and its good as new. I couldnt find anyone else on the internet with that problem, however

Thanks! I did some searching around, and this is the best one I could find. Ordered it. I hope I like it as much as you do.

i bet you will, i dont see how anyone could not like it

So this past weekend, I went to BestBuy and ordered a $1,200 CyberPowerPC because the Asus I wanted was not in stock in any of their warehouses. After only a day, I went back and cancelled my order because of many shady dealings I read that people have had with CyberPower and decided to put that money toward quality parts to build my own rig.

It's my first one, so I decided I might as well familiarize myself with the process of building.

Like Aux mentioned, after putting in more time into researching I feel like I will get a better quality rig and value than I would buying a prebuilt.

Here is my set-up, which will be used mainly for gaming:

It's going to handle anything I throw at it, and this graphics card is a BEAST.

I feel like I don't necessarily need a high-quality keyboard and mouse to get me started, and I felt like this was the best bang for my buck:

R9 290?? aww yiss

and that mouse and KB should be just fine.

Just my two cents

The WD Blue is not a great drive, try to upgrade to the Black, it's worth the price difference
I'd recommend the Samsung EVO/PRO over Corsair's offerings
The Radeon 290 is a great card, looks like you got a good deal too.

I would spend some time and research the PCI Express 3.0 end of the Z97-A and be certain that it supports three discrete PCI 3.0 channels all operating at 16x simultaneously. The reason this is important is that you may end up wanting to use Crossfire or even 3-way Crossfire (Trifire) and you could run into some serious performance penalties if you're not careful. Given your build, I think Crossfire is definitely in your future.

Overall, I think you've got a good build there.

I will call NewEgg and see if I can upgrade to the WD Black.

Also, I had originally planned to get the Z97-P, but was advised to get the Z97-A because it DOES support Crossfire, where the P did not. I feel like this will at least be a good base to get me started, and when the 290 family gets phased out and drops to around $200-$250, I will look to get another one.

I'm mainly gonna be playing WoW, Diablo, and Steam games, but I didn't want to skimp on performance so I went with this. I shouldn't have to upgrade any components for a while.

You'll be fine for a very very long while.. No worries there.

Thanks for the advice on upgrading to the WD Black, gouri.

Changed my order to include it instead of the Blue, and it looks like that's going to be much better for my rig.

Huge difference in performance.. especially for these games that have ginormous installs..

People still install PC games using disks?

Well, it installs from somewhere and stores data on your HDD regardless unless it's all solid state. Some of these games have dozens of GB worth of footprint. If you play lots of games, it makes sense to have a fast HDD backing your SSD.

Ah, I misread your quote. I thought you were talking about a physical disk drive, not an HDD. My fault for not paying attention. :chuckles:

I threw a disk drive in there just in case I end up buying a physical copy of a game...

I already have a hard copy of Diablo 3 (that I bought when it came out and never got to play because I thought my shitty laptop could handle it), and actually went out and bought the WoW Battlechest the other day and hadn't originally included an optical drive in my build.

For $20, I figured what the hell. Still under $1,200 for a sweet rig. I can't wait to get my hands on it.
