Better than Casspi.

All I could think of while watching the video is that he reminds me of a J.J Hickson on the wing, so the #1 play seriously made me chuckle.

If you're looking to find another young cheap player as insurance for Gee leaving, I'd consider taking a look at Terrence Williams before Miles. He started his NBA career on the wrong foot, but in his last stint with Sacramento, there were no issues, as far as I can tell (and I follow Sacramento closely). Taking into account small sample size and the dysfunctional organization, he did pretty well. And some of his teammates were vocal about their wish to have him return to the team.

You look at his per 36 minutes stats and advanced stats, he's a tremendous rebounder at the defensive end and a very good passer for a SF. If he understood what it takes to make his career in the NBA and is serious about it, he could be a very good role player, IMO.

I'd love T. Will on this team. He'll be like the Gerald Green of our team. He's insanely athletic and if nothing he can be the first Cav in the dunk contest in forever. Also, his jump shot is slightly improved.

Miles, gee, Casspi... Gee is the best option there. But I don't see miles as an improvement over Casspi. I think both are barely above d league level small forwards, and in fact miles played more shooting guard than forward last year according to 82 games. There was discussion last year that Casspi's poor performance early in the seasonal related to an injury recovery. And in my opinion Casspi improved in the second half of the year. So unless the Cavs aren't going to sign Gee, I see miles as redundant and probably not progress.

T. Williams would be a better option if he is a good citizen, but I am not sure that is the case. He languished for some reason in Houston, but did ok at Sactown, where he got consistent minutes at small forward. He is a better rebounder than miles and has a similar PER. But if you look, at Sactown only 28% of his shots were assisted, where for Miles it was above 50 %.. But I agree with the general sentiment that neither of these guys is likely a long term starter. While I would like to see the Cavs address this position through a trade this year, I would support using to sign a young vet like DeRozen from Toronto next year if possible.

Am I the only one that thinks Casspi was hurt all of last season and is actually looking forward to seeing if he can play this year?

I don't know about the injury situation, but I'm far from giving up on the guy. He's a young player who knows the international game better than the NBA game and is still learning. He came from a completely disfunctional system in Sacramento. I definitely give him another season before writing him off.

Interesting. It makes more sense to me as a backup swing guy who can play some 2 and some 3 than it does as a strict starting SF. He's not good enough to be the latter, IMO, but he would fit well in the former because we really have no true backup 2 guard to Waiters. I know we have Gibson, but to me he's more of a combo guard/shooting specialist.

He supposedly got yanked from the starting lineup because he didn't know the playbook. He says he has been working on it. He is also working on finishing in traffic and shooting. There is no reason this guy can't get 8 points a night streaking to the rim. Last year he just waited around the perimeter. He could do some damage just moving without the ball. Dunno if he is gonna get it.

I'd also cut some slack because he came from Sacramento, a team which basically offered no coaching/leadership/fundamentals. With guys like Tyreke and Cousins on that team, a playbook was probably the last thing Casspi was exposed to over there. You could just tell Casspi never felt comfortable. I'm hopeful that an offseason with a sound organization will allow him to tap into to his true potential.

As much as I dislike Casspi I dislike having an army of runty small forwards more.

6'6, 220 with a 6'11 wingspan isn't exactly undersized.

That is awesome! I especially like how every 20 images or so, is a picture of CJ holding a basketball.

Considering he averaged 7ppg last season, I think 8ppg is very modest.

re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

Lots of talk about CJ Miles being more of a shooting guard than a small forward. If you are asking which position he played under Sloan, yes he was primarily a starting shooting guard or swingman off the bench. There were two reasons for that:

One was Andre Kirilenko. AK47 could play spot minutes at power forward, but his best position was small forward because of his defensive versatility. When you factor in the fact that all the other best Utah players were big men (Boozer, Millsap, Jefferson), they didn't need CJ Miles play minutes at small forward. It reminds me of Pavlovic playing shooting guard for the Cavs when scouts called him more of a small forward... when someone else who is better has that position on lock-down, you get minutes where you can.

The other is scheme. Byron Scott wants both of his guards dribbling and penetrating. He wants his small forward to be more of a defender and space creator with jump shots and cuts to the basket. In Utah, coaches wanted the shooting guard to play off the ball like Byron Scott's small forwards. So with Miles being an oversized shooting guard, he fits in the Cavs scheme as a small forward.

All of this talk of mediocre SFs makes me wish we would have traded for Marvin Williams this summer. He needed a change of scenery, we likely could have got him on the cheap, and his 3 and D style would have been a nice addition to the starting lineup.
