call of duty 2014

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
terrible. you can do way better.
This is the game forum where people discuss games good and bad. You think only people that like the game should comment on it? How is a call of duty circle jerk better than people both liking and being critical of it?

Guy says he preordered the game.

You guys proceed with "smh" and asking him how he'll be satisfied with the game when the last one was shit. That's pretty low "conversation" if that is what you're calling it.

Don't get mad at me for calling a spade a spade.

I'm still not seeing why we can't be critical of call of duty in the call of duty thread. It's his money, he can do what he wants with it, but it seems like popular opinion has finally caught up with the product they have been putting out for years.

If they went back to world war 2 or did something remotely different I could be interested because I do like arena style shooters.

You cant even defend CoD any more. Its like when they change the kicking style in Madden and people rave about how new and different it is.

If you like it, then good for you. But 1, pre ordering is fucking stupid because your giving them money for a product that you dont even know is worth it yet, 2, their DLC packs are bullshit money grabs, 3, its the same god damn game as all the other ones.

Well I didn't give anyone any money. Amazon doesn't charge you until the release date. Plenty of time to cancel.

I honestly STILL don't know if I could play a World War II game. It was such a saturated market for so long, I'm still not over it.

Day of Defeat (old school not Source) is still the best WW2 shooter I've played. Fuck, it was almost perfect. I used to stay at home from school sick just to play that with my buddy, and I'm talking in like ... middle school. The game was so fluid, the combat and controls were tight as hell in the sense that my shots went where I wanted them to go, I moved where I wanted and how I wanted, it just didn't feel clunky or anything like a lot of the "new era" first person shooters did and still do to this day.

How do you feel about paying full price for a game that is rendered obsolete in one years time? I feel the same way about sports titles so you know. A roster update, some minor tweaks and call it a day.

Meanwhile team fortress 2 came out in 2007, no sequels and is still supported and has a strong user base. I think there have been 7 or so call of duties released in that time frame.

Team Fortress 2 also releases regular free content updates. They just released one a few weeks ago with a new game mode. The new mode is kind of meh, but still...that game has about a dozen different game modes that have been created since it was released and probably a hundred additional maps, all for free. Hell, even the game is free now, and was only twenty bucks when it came out.

Call of Duty comes out every year for sixty bucks and they still expect you to fork over twenty to thirty bucks for the fucking map packs. What a joke.

Gotta respect Valve for being one of the only companies around that still gives content updates for free. It's basically just them and CDProjekt RED now. I remember when that shit was always free, although it took like two days to download the content on my 56K modem. :chuckles:

By the way, if any of you assholes still play TF2, you should add me on Steam. I'm Jack Brickman on there too. I've played with Aux a few times. He sucks, but he'll learn in time. :)

One other point regarding TF2: Due to steam, Valve pretty much prints their own money. They pretty much get to operate however they want, regardless of how good the business practice is, due to the pure saturation of money. Not many companies would stay in business with the operating practices that Valve has if they did not have near infinite money pouring in through their non-game-production endeavors.

That certainly is not a knock against Valve. They make good games that they support well. I would just temper expectations of other companies following the same business practices. If others did, I have a feeling there would see development studios dropping like flies.

Valve should get off their fat lazy asses and make Half Life 3.

Valve did it long before Steam was a thing. They released Team Fortress Classic as a free mod for the original Half-Life and continued to support and update it for years. Even back before Steam, Valve still released games when they were done, not every year to make more money.

A lot of other studios that are still around used to release free content updates for their games too. Epic is one. Bethesda is another. CD Projekt RED still does it, and they don't have Steam to fall back on. Do you think Activision can't afford to release free map packs for Call of Duty, a game that is one of the leading sellers every year? Do you think Bungie couldn't afford to do the same for Halo? Of course they can afford it. They just don't want to.

It all comes down to greed. Most companies don't care about their fans and are content to milk them for every penny they're willing to spend.

They're too busy making more TF2 hats. :chuckles:

Someone has to push the cart while I kill everyone with a bow and arrow. :chuckles:

By the way, have I showed you my shitter binds in a game yet? A guy I used to play with who played on a few of the better competitive teams gave them to me forever ago. They're just trash talk binds that have a tendency to really piss people off. I love using them in servers I know I won't be banned from.

hah that sounds awesome

I think the guy who gave me the binds got banned from competitive play too for hacking. :chuckles:

Regarding earlier Valve game: The cost of doing business at that point was very different than the current market. 10-15 years ago, you could make a good AAA game with 20 people and 3 years. Now, that is just not the case. to say that the cost of producing games is considerably higher now would be an understatement. Couple that with pricing of games being stagnant for 10 years. Most companies simply cannot afford not to charge for map packs and additional content (I.E. DLC).

Valve has, as you said, always released games when they are ready. They are lucky to still be in business doing that. Many many very good studios have gone under attempting to do just that.

Activision is publicly traded. They are beholden to their shareholders. Bungie and Zenimax (Who owns Bethesda) are privately owned, which does afford them more freedom, though it also does not put them in a position where they can shoulder as much losses. I dont think people realize how fragile a lot of studios are. How one bad bet could possibly take down many popular studios out there (Obviously this is a generalization, and does not apply to all studios).
