Cavs’ Anthony Parker Mulling Retirement

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Jamison is cheap I have no problem bringing him back next year. Someone needs to score!!

I don't really see any benefit in bringing back Jamison or any veteran in order to improve the team on the court through their stats such as scoring, passing, defense, etc. All that really does is hurt our draft slots year after year up to our contention for a championship.

If we do bring back vets, one benefit I see from it is using them as leadership for the young players. That could still lead to a worse draft slot, but, as long as it's because of the improvement of the long-term players (Kyrie, TT, Gee), then I'm all for it. I'd just want to see very low minutes from Jamison in order to allow the young guys to play. Also, big minutes for Jamison still means that he could give us an extra win or two, which we don't need at this point.

I'd also be ok with bringing back Jamison to be used for a trade either at the beginning of the season or later. Imagine signing Jamison to a veteran minimum contract, or even a 3-5 million a year contract, which, for Jamison's talent level even at 35, is still very reasonable. Quite frankly, it seems as though Jamison has a few more years in him before he is going to not be worth it. He's still actually pretty good. He'd be much more valued as a player at the trade deadline with a contract like that. We could have him for a good chunk of the season, then trade him off to a contender for a 1st + junk or even a young prospect on top of the 1st. That way, we see value come out of him with veteran presence, and we get value out of him.

I've thought this over, and I wouldn't mind actually keeping Parker for another year or two if we have no better use for the player slot he would take up. Parker flat out sucks and is not going to hurt our draft slots any, and he probably would see a massive cut in minutes and be in full-blown veteran presence mode next season for any new wings (SGs/SFs) that we would bring in. The same goes for Boobie and even Walton although I don't see Walton being on this team very long one way or another.

The one vet I see needing to go is Andy. His value is fairly high, and we need to get value from him while we can so that we don't have a broken down Andy when we need him most and instead something to show for him when we would need him. Moving him would also potentially improve our draft slots up until the time we would contend for a championship. Like I said, players who don't have a future on this team only hurt our draft positions with good play that won't be so good when the time comes to win the finals, which is highly likely going to be the case with Andy if we keep him.

I thought Parker had one more year left and the Cavs front office wanted to bring him. Ap days may be numbered but his attitude and professionalism are key to a young team like ours.

Yea never got the AP hate fully. The guy did what he was brought here to do, which was hit 3s and play relatively solid defense. He was never supposed to be anything more than a poor man's Bruce Bowen, and I think he lived up to that role.

Like I said, I'd be willing to bring him back as long as there's no other use of the 15th roster spot. He's going to suck ass next season, so he won't affect our wins directly, but he can just sit back and mentor young guys and still feel important for another year.

No 3 year Cavalier starter has played so much and done so little. I didn't shed any tears when Bimbo Coles left the organization so I sure won't when the SG version leaves.

This mentor/veteran leadership stuff is way overrated especially when you can't play.

I'm impressed that you spelled 1 word incorrectly in a 3 word post. Especially the shortest word. :chuckles:

Let me correct the grammar police because you've used a incomplete sentence fragment in your correction.

This should be, "I'm impressed that you spelled one word incorrectly in a three word post, especially the shortest word. :chuckles:"

I have another word for veteran leadership: coach.

Why do we need veteran leadership? What the fuck are the coaches paid for?

That's like asking why does the Army need Sergeants? What the fuck are Colonels paid for?

Except I was not being the "grammar police." It's the internet - I don't care about people's grammar. His misspelling stuck out quite obviously, and I found it funny. Obviously so did others.

Love your name/avatar though.

If Jamison is on this team next season I will be on suicide watch.

The ONLY way it could work is if he comes off the bench, and he and Byron have a serious discussion about what he's allowed to do with regards to shot selection, and his now lesser-role.

Jamison has expressed his desire to finish his career near his home in Charlotte.

I'd do a sign and trade for Charlotte's #2 this year which could be the best we can expect for a trade for him

I don't see us getting a late 1st for him

Blah I've always hated Parker's game. He should have retired before joining the Cavs so I wouldn't have had to watch his wanna be MJ turnaround jumper kill possessions.

I don't know...without him, we don't get our only win over the Heat last year (and possibly over an overall time frame of 3-4 years depending on what happens in the near future.)

you could say the same thing about Hollins but its hardly a reason to keep him around

Where did I say it was a reason to keep Hollins or Parker around or not? The original quote was "should have retired before joining the Cavs," which is what I was addressing.
