I like how Tristan Thompson will come in his rookie year making more than JJ Hickson. Makes me smile.

2013 is going to be a HUGE year for the Cavs.

They'll have an influx of young talent and money to burn in free agency.

Cleveland will take it's lumps the next few years but if the front office drafts well, this team is going to be set up to make some serious noise.

Mad titties. I had no idea Parker was a FA this season. Hopefully we don't resign him and find a better starting 2 guard who is athletic and can defend.

whats the source for these? we were discussing gees contract and multiple sources are reporting different things. I cant find any reference that the cavs made a qualifying offer and some of the sites show him as unguaranteed

Shouldn't Irving and Thompsons salaries in theory be lower than that? They aren't able to sign until the 1st correct? That is when the CBA expires and salary league wide is expected to be cut. I would think their salaries will be slightly lower than they are estimated.

those salaries appear to be estimated on what the new cba rookie scale may call for. Under the current CBA agreement irving would be due about 4 million dollars and thompson around 3.3

    According to Jason Lloyd:

Cavs pick up 3rd year team option on Christian Eyenga today. He'll be under team's control through 2012-13 season.

So it looks like the 2011-2012 salary cap is going to be pretty close to $51 Mil this year and the MLE is going to be about $5 Mil.

The Cavs will have about $61 Mil salary allocated against the cap for next year after they sign the rookies.

That means if they waive Jamison under the amnesty rule, they could create about $5Mil in cap space for free agents.

Since that's no larger than the MLE, it doesn't really give them much advantage for getting free agents.

But the Cavs might use the amnesty rule anyway if it gets them out of the luxury tax, which may be as low as $60 Mil this year.

I thought I had read the expectation was that the salary cap would be right around where it was last year - at 58M or so?

I guess i made the assumption that the cap would role back as much as the player BRI percentage. Maybe I'm wrong. Will know soon.

Ahh, ok, thanks. With that two year phase-in period, it seems to me the best chance to take advantage of that is to amnesty Baron after this year, they would be looking at $20-25MM of cap room this summer.

Looks like we have a ton of flexibility to play with. I would hold off on getting free agents for another year.
