Cavs sign PG Ben Uzoh to 10 day contract

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
From my sources:

Uzoh failed in NJ because he was hesitant to shoot. He has no real 3pt shot, but he clammed up the offense in NJ. He was then cut in Russia trying to catch on during the league holdout. He was cut in 2 days.

Uzoh's recent D League success is tied to Rio Grande's uptempo style of pushing the ball. Uzoh's rhythm seems better in a faster game. He still does not possess much range, but turns the ball over only twice per 34 minutes of play.

Defensively, he's long, but has problems laterally. He's a tweener, not a true point. He was a scorer in college.

My guess is that the Cavs saw his recent success pushing the tempo, and grabbed him to cover for Ky. It is likely Ky will miss a week just fulfilling league testing requirements. If he has lingering symptoms, make that 2 weeks. Boobie cannot play point for 1-2 weeks.

Moo

Sombody thought of him enough to make a video game cover.

I'm in.

I think Boobie *can* play point for one-two weeks (we saw him do that last year (I think?) and we did really well actually), but even still we are pretty thin at PG/SG. And Byron likes to have three PGs on the roster.

Ben is a talented offensive player, who has a very, very, VERY (did I stress this enough?) high up-side. One thing that I saw someone post, was that he was a good ball-handler - well, if you mean he can dribble the ball, then you're right. If you mean he is a good creator, etc., then you are mistaken. Ben isn't even a point-guard really. He has played the position, but at-most he is a combo guard... Think Gibson, with much better defensive capabilities, higher BB IQ, but not quite as good of a 3-pt shooter - Oh-yeah, and he is about 500X more athletic than Daniel Gibson. Actually, if you want to compare his athletic ability to someone, then think (forgive me for this) LeBron James. Ben has about 50X more ability than Manny Harris (who I like, but don't see as anything more than a end-of-the-bench guy), and with a coach like Byron, he may have a real shot!!! Ben Uzoh may end up being the steal of this generation if he can wrap himself around coach Scott's philosophy, and show enough progress in the time he is given to warrant keeping him longer.

I *think* the Cavaliers' thinking here is that if Ben can do what he needs to during this 10-day, then the Cavaliers will have a guy that could possibly be a perfect running mate for Kyrie (and I do mean "perfect") down the line, and allow them to feel more comfortable about moving Ramon sooner, rather than later.

My pants just got a little tighter.

Please no one post anything negative after that or I will be disappointed.

According to DX his predraft measurements were 6'2" 3/4 without shoes and 6'9 wingspan. We need a SG with some handles as much as anything else, so maybe that's what they're look at him for.

So 6'4 with a 6'9 wingspan. Pretty solid size for a combo-guard. About the same size as Eric Gordon. His playstyle and size lends well to a third guard kind of role. We'll have to see if he's talented enough to fill that role.

Byron's system needs those type of guards, hopefully he is a diamond in the rough. 6'4 with that wingspan and athleticism is plenty big enough to play SG.

Really?

So 6'4 with a 6'9 wingspan. Also has an 8'9 standing reach. Pretty solid size for a combo-guard. About the same size as Tyreke Evans (about the same height, 2" shorter wingspan, 1" higher reach).

He is a LOT smarter than Tyreke (who envisions himself a super-star), and if I were asked to make a bet on who would win a game of 1-on-1 between the two, I'd take Ben 1000 times out of 1000 - without even thinking about it.

He can also dunk (jumping from the free-throw line) like Dr. J. I wish I had a video of him doing it in Portland, but you'll just have to wait until someone who does have it, lets you see how incredible this kid is. The fact that he's down-to-earth, and not a "me-first" type of person, can only work in his favor.

Lets all keep our fingers crossed, knock on wood, bribe someone (lol), whatever it takes to let him get his bearing and stay with the Cavs.

Here is my personal guarantee: If the Cavaliers keep Ben, and he stays with the club through next season, I guarantee this site (and it's members) that Ben will be starting by the 10th game of the season, or before. If he is here, and not starting next season, I will give the RCF site a $500 donation immediately after the tip-off of the 10th game (if Ben is not starting).

No negativity! We found our #2 option! Our SG position is filled for the foreseeable future!

This guy reminds me of Shannon Brown when he first came to the Cavaliers, before Brown had a jumper to speak of. He definitely seems pretty athletic, maybe not like Shannon's bunnies but nonetheless. As Jmac posted back, maybe we want this guy to be the Alonzo of PG finds. I would love this cheap, tough talent wave to continue rolling.

I like to think that I smoke high quality weed, but I would definitly be interested in whatever you have got your hands on.
