Cavs sign PG Ben Uzoh to 10 day contract

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This can't be good for the fact that Kyrie will probably be out longer than expected.

Not necessarily. 10-day contracts are the minimum possible, correct? We're sans a PG right now, so it's not like we can have a Whenever-Kyrie's-Healthy contract.

If the kid does decently in his filler time here, I'm sure he'll get more opportunities either here when we (hopefully) trade Sessions, or maybe another club that needs someone on the bench will snag him.

We need to showcase Sessions, but I'm sure Scott doesn't want to run him ragged. Let Uzoh get some more time in while Sessions gets a breather.

Is there any obvious reason Manny Harris wasn't brought up? I saw him in D League a few weeks ago and looked healthy. Did someone else sign him and I miss it?

Just so I'm fair in a 'separate but equal' kind of way to the Indians forum....

....I can see the Larry O'Brien trophy arriving in Cleveland any day now.

My guess is that Harris isn't in the Cavaliers' long term plans, so he might as well get a shot with another franchise. Hoarding Harris as the Cavalier's on again, off again 16th man isn't good for his career.

we needed a PG that's why.

I think it's a solid signing. Also seems like Chris Grant and I are on the same wave length. In looking around for possible available PG's in case of a Sessions trade, Uzoh was the one who looked like the best option to me.
He is more of a combo G but has good physical attributes and there is some upside there. I think it's a possible Alonzo Gee type signing with a young athletic player with some raw tools but who needs more development and refinement to his game. Chance he could become a decent bench player. I thought there was some potential with him when he was coming out of Tulsa.

Of course he could also be gone after 10 days. Either way Uzoh is at least worth a look. When you're in the rebuilding mode that the Cavs are in it makes sense to take looks at players like this.

I'm not questioning the signing. I guess I just figured Harris was in Canton waiting to come back up. Opportunity opens up and he doesn't go, just surprised.

So far the Grant has done a great job of picking up guys from D League. I like how they keep bring in young guys even if they don't work out. They do a good job of taking advantage of a bad opportunity. Last year during the losing streak, Grant basically told the scouts to go out and find the best D League player...we end up with Gee. This year Irving goes down, we bring in another you guy to look at. Way better approach than signing an unsigned veteran for 10 days.

Looks pretty good against other d league guys. He certainly looks bigger than 6'3" though. He is very easy getting to the rim, but perhaps that is the long arms. I think it is overstated to call him a "core" piece, but yeah he could be the next Gee.

I don't think this says anything about manny per se. They are just shopping the prospects.

Looks to have some promise. I just hope it's prep for when Sessions is gone.

As long as he doesn't have a Sydney Crosby level concussion, then it's not that big of a deal. Would I like Kyrie to be out there playing? Of course. It's fun to watch him play and he gives me an additional reason to tune in. However, if our ultimate goal is to lose games and get a higher draft pick, doesn't Kyrie missing time coincide with that? Also, maybe it will give him a chance to get in a little better shape. An extra week or two of conditioning can't hurt. Let's just hope it's a mild concussion with no other legitimate symptoms.

There are no restrictions on signing NBADL players not under contract to another team. We need a PG, and there's no reason not to bring in the best available PG.

Not gonna lie, dude looks straight up nasty in this highlight video.

Hey, if the Cavs' brass can pluck Alonzo Gee out of obscurity, I'm willing to keep an open mind with this kid. And I'm not saying Gee is going to be a world beater, but the progress he has made from last year to this year cannot be overlooked.

Nonetheless, I have faith in our front office in obtaining talent and in our coaching staff for bringing quality out of said talent. Gotta give props to Chris Grant and Byron Scott. I really believe the two men can work well together as we move towards the future.
