Corey Brewer Traded to Houston

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Do we even have one guy like that?

I should've been more specific. I meant guys that can run the floor and catch outlet passes and play 'hard.' Apologies.

Adding talent to this current roster would be sooooo unfair.

Well, they could be thinking that Haywood will continue to round into form. Or they could be thinking about Okafor as a possibility. (Remember, it was reported this summer that the Cavs, among many other teams, had made inquiries, but that Okafor at that time wasn't ready to sign, or probably more likely didn't feel another team would actually sign him. They could always also wait on the buy-out market later in the year.

The thing though about this mythical "rim protector" is that he would have to be better than one of their top 3 bigs to get minutes.

What it tells me is that Blatt's minute allocations are not purposeless, and he does not trust Miller or James to play meaningful minutes.
I kinda agree..plus the perimeter defense is not good..needa bigger defender out there to help contest long shots.

I had a dream of Brewer coming to cleveland tonight, scoring in transition and it was a thing of beauty.
But I want a rim protector now!! give me Sanders pls

We need a rim-protector!

I don't see us getting a rim protector with this trade exception. Its only 5 million. Brewer for the trade exception would be a steal for this team. No he is not a 3 point shooter but he is a proven talent player thats won in college and in the NBA. I would rather have him than Ray Allen. And also may give someone that might make Love a little more comfortable and be able to settle in a bit more...

After thinking, I can't say I am very motivated to do this trade.:

1.) The Cavs still are crowded enough at the wing. If Miller ever gets right and Delly comes back, our backcourt/wing becomes crowded even without Brewer. Plus there is Ray Allen.

2.) Cavs have to feel they can get something better for the trade exception. At the very least, this type of deal will be available at the deadline. Why use your best tradeable asset right now?

3.) If the Houston reports are true, we lose a bidding war or we overpay.

It just seems too early to do a trade like this.

I think the talk about Brewer being on a championship team is a bit overstated.

He played sparingly in 13 games during the regular season after joining the Mavs.

He played in 6 games during the playoffs, averaging 3.8mpg and 1.5ppg. Not an important factor at all in the Mavs playoff run.

I'm not saying he doesn't have a ring, nor am I saying that he couldn't help. But an acquisition of Brewer shouldn't be built on a championship pedigree that was assembled by Dirk, Marion, Terry and others. It's about whether he could help this team and whether it would affect other moves the Cavs might make.

He was also there for it and knows what it feels like to be in the heat of the playoffs... He also won 2 national titles. Which is not something to scoff at. But I get your point.

I don't see how we validate using the TPE on Corey Brewer. Our depth at the position is fine and you'd have to believe it could be used for a higher impact big man at some point. Seems redundant and a pointless move. Any other of our options at the 2 are better shooters and another "leak out" guy doesn't seem all that important to me.

One thing that is clear is he is a 100% hustle player. If that would rub off on the rest of the team, he would be a valuable addition to this team. He is a good locker room guy and if him being here makes Love that much more comfortable in our offense, there's more value added. A 6'9'' SG with versatility does sound quite enticing. He is exactly the type of role player championship teams have...he can be used in a number of ways

I am a little worried that Minnesota fans do not think he is a great defender. I thought that was his game. We've looked much better these past few games but our D is still a work in progress, to say the least.

With that being said, i don't think Okafor would be able to come in and contribute defensively from day one either.

I think we could certainly use additional depth/length on the wing. Right now, our depth starts and ends with Marion.

Miller's play has been a detriment and our bench offense relies solely on Dion and Joe Harris threes.

We could always use a defensive wing who can put the ball in the hole, IMO.

am i the only one who would feel a lot better about this trade if Okafor told us he'll join the team in a few months? using the TPE now on an average wing like Brewer is a huge gamble imo. you're basically banking on Andy staying healthy all season (not to mention that you could argue that even with Andy a rim protecting center is a bigger need than another wing)
