Chad Ford has been retroactively editing his draft boards after the fact.

Looks like Chad Ford changes his draft boards after the fact to make himself look better. Take the 2013 draft board for instance.

Here's a cache of the page a month after the draft:https://web.archive.org/web/2013072...pn.go.com/nbadraft/results/top100/_/year/2013

And here it is now: http://insider.espn.go.com/nbadraft/results/top100/_/year/2013/

Notice how he's raised players that have done well (Antetokounmpo, Carter-Williams, Hardaway Jr., Dieng, Gobert) and dropped those who haven't done so well (Karasev, Larkin, Jamaal Franklin).

Kinda shady I think.

EDIT: He's done it before:

2012 Draft Board day after draft:https://web.archive.org/web/20120629181640/http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2012&action=login&appRedirect=http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2012

2012 Draft Board now: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100/_/year/2012

Raised Lillard to 4, raised Draymond Green, dropped Austin Rivers and Kendall Marshall off, etc.

EDIT 2: 2011

August 2011:
https://web.archive.org/web/20110812055402/http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2011&action=login&appRedirect=http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2011

Today: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100/_/year/2011

Raised Kawhi Leonard, Jonas Valanciunas, Klay Thompson, Vucevic, Mirotic; Dropped people like Jan Vesely and Jimmer.

EDIT 3: 2010

4 Days after draft:
https://web.archive.org/web/20100628090356/http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2010

Today: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100/_/year/2010

Raised Paul George from 10 to 6, raised Greg Monroe from 7 to 5, raised Gordon Hayward, raised Eric Bledsoe, raised Avery Bradley; Dropped Wesley Johnson, Aminu, Ed Davis, Xavier Henry, Luke Babbit down 5 spots, Ekpe Udoh

EDIT 4: 2009

From 2010:
https://web.archive.org/web/20100606224233/http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2009&action=login&appRedirect=http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2009

Today: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100/_/year/2009

Raised James Harden, Jrue Holiday, DeMar DeRozan; Drops Hasheem Thabeet, Jonny Flynn, Eric Maynor

This is all I'm gonna do for now.

EDIT 5: I'm back. 2008

From 2010:
https://web.archive.org/web/20100606032034/http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2008&action=login&appRedirect=http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100?year=2008

Today: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/results/top100/_/year/2008

Raised Kevin Love, Serge Ibaka, DeAndre Jordan (10 SPOTS), Ryan Anderson. Dropped O.J. Mayo, Anthony Randolph, Jason Thompson.

Ok, now I'm tired of doing this. Anyone else can take over if they want.

That never happens on RCF... :chuckle:

Hard to fathom that he thought he could get away with it in the age of the Internet, although I guess he got away with for several years.
i've been repping jonas and drummond from day one :cool7: (although i will admit i scoffed at the rumors of kawhi being targeted at #4, whoops!)

anyway, saw this blowing up on twitter last night. i am curious who all at espn was complicit. i'd assume ford couldn't edit a website himself so he'd need an engineer or at least someone with the technical skills to do it. maybe not though. maybe higher ups at espn knew. hell, maybe ford wasn't even aware of it. IF he was involved at all though, this has to be a firable offense. i mean, insider isn't as draft-centric as it used to be, but it's still a big factor and really ford's entire value is based on his so-called draft knowledge. it's obviously hugely immoral on principle. when you factor in the money aspect too? easily should get canned.

fwiw, someone(?) at espn has changed back all of the drafts in light of this news. trying a coverup in the age of the internet is laughable.

I normally don't weigh in on these journalistic things because "sports journalism" is generally a joke these days. But... in this case, Chad Ford deserves to lose his job. What he's done is blatantly dishonest and impugns the integrity of any publication (ESPN in this case) that puts forward his work.

This is akin to plagiarism in my eyes...

Reverting it back was probably the worst possible thing ESPN could have done under the circumstances. There are screenshots of the changes for crying out loud. :chuckle:

Now you just have to flat out admit wrongdoing and apologize for covering it up. Pretty embarrassing.

ESPN, like any news publication surely employes a CMS-based framework so that one does not rely on developers to publish their own content. Ford can, again almost assuredly, edit his previous work. In fact, he'd likely be one of only a few people able to, or inclined to do so.

What I find funny is that no one noticed this until now. I thought it was well known he did this.

I've always thought he was a hack. I used to be a sucker for his chats until I realized that I knew more about basketball than him. He doesn't offer anything original, regurgitates all info, and doesn't even bother to filter it. I would love to see him replaced by someone more competent.

I predict that ESPN, if they say anything, will say they were hacked...

As a reminder to you all, I am 100% on record for drafting Hassan Whiteside in 2010 with the Cavs 30th pick. Very upset when they traded that pick. You can look it up unless the threads didn't get transferred from vBulletin for some reason.

If ESPN feels he brings users to the site that come because he is who he is, they'll have him do a tearful public apology and let him off the hook.

If they feel users follow him simply because of the service he offers, they'll drop him.

They're one of the worst, most dishonest media outlets in the world as far as ethics and journalistic integrity goes.

"After reviewing the post on Reddit today, we have found that changes were made manually to Chad Ford’s NBA Draft prospects rankings. We have not been able to determine who made the changes, or when. We have talked to Chad Ford, who strongly denies any involvement, and based on his past work and professionalism, we believe him. Our review will continue but it is unclear at this time if we will be able to ascertain who was responsible."

Probably because who cares? Who the fuck would go back and dig up Chad Ford's old rankings on a whim? Honestly, I can't believe ESPN issued a statement on this.
