Channing Frye

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like Frye overall but just seems like he should be a more formidable rim defender than he is given his size, frame, and the relatively limited minutes he's playing.
We're playing him out of position as a backup 5; he's never been that his entire career.

I like the idea of going to it when the opposing team has a big, lumbering rim protector because it pulls him from the basket. But Frye is and always has been the ideal stretch 4.

He isn't as efficient as a 5 because Love can't set proper screens to collapse the defense. All he does is set slip screens that do nothing.
This should be addressed. Love is so inefficient as a roll man that a lineup of him and Frye together just isn't as effective as a lineup with lebron at the 4 and Frye at the 5 imo.

without getting off topic there is also the minor issue that lebron is the best powerforward in the league.

I think loves screening has improved this year as he has more patience before he rolls or slips

Maybe he needs to rest some

How much three point shooting do we need

We have a center that can rebound right

Nothing against Frye, but he's struggling in the role he's been asked to play for the last few weeks.

We're wasting all of our LeBron at the 4 game-play with Channing as the 5. It doesn't work.

One of things that maximizes LBJ at 4, is him getting all the offensive mis-matches he wants, without actually having to to the real dirty work of an interior guy, because that is the role of the person who plays at the 5.

Love is an elite rebounder who will play inside, Thompson THRIVES inside....but Frye....Frye does not operate in that role effectively at all. It hurts him and it hurts the mis-match we are trying to create with Bron at the 4 and it needs to stop now except for very situational moments.

The bench lineup is in dire need of a playmaker.. Last year we had delly run pick n roll with lbj and it destroyed pistons in the playoffs.. We cant simply rely on lbj to be tje primary playmaker with the bench and also be 4.. We are severely undermanned and the injuries dont help..

Frye hasn't been good for almost a month now. That bench unit with him at the 5 and Korver out there with Liggins is what got us brutally murdered by the spurs.

Man, Channing has been absolutely horrible out there.

I am curious to know what his defensive stats are this season because it looks like everytime he is on the floor, the opposition goes on some kind of offensive run. He might well be our worst defender in the roster. At least you see James Jones try to contest shots and stuff even if he fails at them. Channing just stands around there doing nothing on the defensive end.

Just a thought, put frye in the starting lineup and put tt with the bench squad..
Kyrie/shump/korver/lbj/frye
Felder/liggins/rj/jj/tt

Man, just typing our lineups and it shows we desperately need depth.. Losing love and smith to injuries doesnt help..

Getting a halfway decent backup big would go a long way in sorting out A LOT of this roster's flaws. Not all of them, but a lot of them.

Most people don't realize how big (literally and figuratively) Mozgov was for us last year, even with the steep drop-off in quality play. Whether or not he started or backed up TT, we never lacked for a body to man the middle and assert some interior presence. In addition he gave us the versatility to go big or small depending on the opponent/game plan. Finally, it allowed TT more time to rest so he could use his best asset, his energy, to his advantage. I'm not saying we should have matched LA's offer; that's ridiculous. But 10-15 mpg of Mozgov went a long way for us in the regular season.

Which brings me to Frye. I've been saying it and I'll keep saying it, we have not been using Frye correctly. AT ALL. He wasn't brought in here to guard bruising centers, he was acquired to give us another stretch 4 option when Love sat. He should ONLY be playing the 5 in spot minutes...by no means is he a viable permanent solution there.

Our interior is as bad as, if not worse than it was in '14-15 when Griffin was forced to respond to the red siren blaring. TT can eat up all the minutes at the 5 against Golden State but we NEED another guy who can man the paint and alter shots at the rim...even if it's for 10 minutes a game.

Get off your ass and grab a D-league guy on an 10-day contract Griffin, enough is enough.

Does Korver make Frye expendable?

Also, is Frye fairly valuable on the trade market given his unique size/shooting combination?

I would think that he has to be the only one of our vets with actual trade value.
