Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

Alright guys it's official, I am announcing my interest in the Browns Head Coaching Position

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

It won't be Shurmur, IMO. He would need to show a complete reversal in his team's execution and discipline thru the season.

I want a guy who can balance being a great resource for the players as well as maintaining the respect needed to have a team that is disciplined. There is talent on the Browns' roster; however, Shurmur has been unable to harness it. Too many penalties, too many mistakes, not enough remorse for it. Also, I don't really want a veteran. I'd rather have a coach who is going to be in Cleveland for the long-haul.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

What I dont want is a first year head coach, i want someone with experience

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

Give me Herman Edwards or Dennis Green. I assume they have learned from their mistakes and they would actually be a option unlike Gruden, Brian Billick or Cowher.

Butch Davis and Chris Palmer are available.

I don't see Gruden coming here. I think he's very happy in tv. He's well paid and there's no reason to come to this mess in Cleveland. I think the same applies to Cowher too. There's a lot less stress in what they're doing now.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

Very little talent on this roster. No accomplished coach is going to come here. It has to be someone trying to make a name and establish themself.

Ya lets hire in Herm or Dennis Green and go 7-9 instead of 6-10!

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

I'd much, much rather go with a first time head coach. Experience doesn't matter, it matters how the guy relates to his players, how he handles them, and how he is on game day.

I will say this: Haslam should hire the guy he believes is the best guy. The problem with Lerner is that he didn't love football and he basically let the media hire who it told him to hire. Romeo was a super bowl winning coach and a hot name, so he hired him. Savage was making his name in Baltimore, so he decided to hire him. He knew who Eric Mangini was and the mega press he got in his first year in NY, so he hired him. Everyone wanted a big football name to run the organization, so he hired Mike Holmgren.

Not once did Lerner actually go into a search full bore and flesh out who to hire. He just took advice of other people and that was that. With Haslam, I want him to take his time and hire the guy that he is impressed with, the guy he believes could lead his team in the future. That is what the Steelers do, and that is what I expect an owner with actual business acumen to do with the next hire.

I don't remember the media loving Romeo or Mangini.

Romeo was leading the super bowl champion defense, I believe that was the same year the Pats were using WR'ers as DBs.

The Mangini thing, I am more guessing, but I think Lerner heard about Mangini his first year, knew he was from the Pats, and Lerner was sold. Dude obviously knew something about him because he was hired nearly a week after he was hired.
