Chip Kelly to the Eagles

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yea I'm sure Alabama is glad they didn't get Saban's wishy washy ass. And the ban hammer has no relevance on his possible success in the NFL. Did Pete Carroll getting the ban hammer hurt the Seahawks?

Wait, what? My quote applies much more to the way Saban dogged LSU, left for MIA, and then dogged MIA leaving for ALA. And now the same Saban gets all twisted when media asks him 1000 times if he's sure he's not leaving? Well, duh, you grumpy old bastard, of course they keep asking. You play wishy washy games and lie in the past.

The ban comment was made as to why he left ORE for good this time. Peter King came out a few days ago and said Kelley went back to ORE because of Nike. Well, did Nike somehow renig on something? Not likely. It's fair to assume Kelley just now learned of how severe his penalties may be.

The Browns were right in moving on. The funny thing is, the Petrino comment I made seems justifiable now, as well. Dude left ORE without even telling his assts or players first. That's classy. if you don't see the douche it takes to do something like that, I feel for ya.

I guess I just don't remember the backlash concerning Saban dogging LSU. I'm pretty sure its his right to pursue an NFL avenue if he wishes. And I understand he dogged Miami, but I'm not sure Alabama regrets hiring him even though he lied to Miami.

And Chip Kelly quite possible is a douche. But not of that changes the fact that he is an offensive innovator and could change the game. RCF was posting all kinds of shit about raving about his offense and ingenuity. Clearly the Browns thought highly of that to as he was their first choice. Chip being a douche doesn't negate any of his offensive creativity or ingenuity.

I don't see what the big deal is ? He chose the Eagles over the Browns and ultimately over the Oregon Ducks.

If any fan base should be frustrated it should be the Oregon Ducks fan base.... Not like the Chiefs, Chargers, or Bears fans are disappointed or anything.... He didn't want ti be with the Browns... Nothing wrong with that...

Saban repeatedly denied ever leaving LSU for the NFL, but before the ink dried he was gone. Huge backlash, and rightfully so. Sure, he can do whatever he wants, but it was a bit of karma that the NFL game/approach kicked his ass, and it wasn't long that he was back to ALA. I think he learned a lot about himself through all of it and I wouldn't be surprised if he would change it in retrospect.

Kelly the coach is a great mind, no denything that. That is what attracted us and our FO to wanting to hire him. The relevance of his doucheness is not how he draws up a game plan, but in what it says about him as a person, HC, and leader of men. Hence, the Petrino comparison. Leaving your players and fellow coaches just hanging speaks of his character in general. So, in hindsight, it may have been a blessing in disguise that it played out this way for us.

Not to mention, none of us know if he will translate to the NFL. People can sell short what Chud has done, but there is little denying his success in various capacities at an NFL level. He's had success in numerous roles and shown the ability to adapt his schemes/techniques to fit players of differing abilities.

That Miami roster was god awful. I hardly think the NFL kicked his ass. He went 9-7 his first year, and the team went 1-15 the year after he left. I would say he got about as much out of that as he could.

Didn't Bill Belicheck accept the Jets job, than back out and take the Pats the next day? Is he a flake, does that speak negatively about his leadership qualities? I don't care if Chip Kelly is a piece of shit, if his offense is the next wave of the NFL, he will win games regardless.

No, we don't know. But most of RCF was creaming their pants and drooling over his offense when they thought the Browns were going to land him. Not to mention, the Browns must think pretty highly of how he'll translate given their desire to hire him.

Saban knew what the roster was when he got there. The NFL did kick his ass, and he has said as much these past couple of weeks. He didn't like the lack of control he had. Saban is a better recruiter than he is football coach. He's tailor made for NCAA football. .

Belichick situation was completely different. He was being groomed for a long time to take over for Parcells. When the day came, shit had changed(ownership issues were huge back then, and it was said he doubted his actual role would be on par with his percieved role).

Again, I don't think people are doubting Kelly's offensive mind. But, Kelly has pulled this same shit for 2 years now, and this turn of events takes it to a whole other level. Not sure how you can justify his actions here, honestly. It takes a real piece of work to pull the shit he just did. Really don't have much more to say on it. If you don't believe this says something about his character, and that this doesn't play into the role of a HC, then we just disagree on exactly what it takes to be a good HC.

Yeah we do disagree, because I think his character has very little effect on his success as a head coach. I'm sure he's had this same character for a while, and it hasn't stopped him and his offense from achieving all kinds of success.

I'd consider it a pretty safe bet that Kelly experiences more success in the next 3 years than Chud in the NFL.

I don't think it says a ton about his character. His team got caught doing something ethically wrong in the NCAA's mind while doing nothing wrong in the realm of everyday life. In fact, you could argue, the things Oregon is being accused of helped many talented young individuals out of poor situations.

I don't see it that much different than Jim Tressel sitting on information that was deemed illegal in the eyes of the NCAA, but perfectly acceptable by every-day standards.

Chip Kelly has now removed himself from the over-hanging cloud that is the NCAA and whatever punishement they deem fair in their eyes. If he was assured the NCAA wouldn't slap him with a bowl ban, loss of schollies, and limited recruiting hours I think he is till Oregon's coach. Does Pete Carrol have character flaws for bailing on USC? I don't see it that way....things happen at a college level that are needed to compete and very few if any coaches are clean. When they get caught, it's either stay in the situation and become irrelevant or move on. He's moving on.

I'd take that bet.

Who wants Chip Kelly when you can grab a guy who has been an offensive coordinator for 4 years, 2 of which were pretty shitty?

1 1/2 really.

And it's been well documented that the reason for this is because he tried to expand the playbook too much in '08 & '12. The Browns never recovered in '08, but once Chud toned it down in '12, Newton & the Panther offense was back on track.

Norv will undoubtedly help as well.

At the end of the day, give me the guy who has the motivation to make his hometown team a winner & whose offense is NFL proven over a guy who sounds like a huge douche & might have pulled a Saban on us after 2 or 3 years.

Just say Chud is the worst offensive coordinator you've ever seen.

We all know it's going there... get it over with.

I'm not even trying to compare everyday ethical vs NCAA ethical. Completely irrelevant. These guys all know very well how life's rules differ from NCAA rules.

The bottom line is I think it speaks volumes as to his character that he would leave in the manner he did. If you guys don't have a problem with a HC leaving his team(players, coaches, etc) without letting them know first, then so be it. I don't roll like that. We all have the right to go from Point A to B, but it's how we get there that makes us different.
