Chip Kelly to the Eagles

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just say Chud is the worst offensive coordinator you've ever seen.

We all know it's going there... get it over with.

He did have that 24 quarter touchdown-less streak in 2008... wait

I don't see what the big deal is ? He chose the Eagles over the Browns and ultimately over the Oregon Ducks.

If any fan base should be frustrated it should be the Oregon Ducks fan base.... Not like the Chiefs, Chargers, or Bears fans are disappointed or anything.... He didn't want ti be with the Browns... Nothing wrong with that...

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think many people here are pissed he chose Philly over Cleveland, at least I'm not. I like the Chud hire & was always skeptical about Kelly.

It screams asshole that he said he's going back to Oregon, then changed his mind and chose Philly without teling his coaching staff, recruits, and possibly without even telling his team.

A lot of people are saying this makes the Browns look bad. They didn't get their main guy, they were impatient and hired Chud too fast and thus missed the opportunity to go after Kelly again, etc.

Well what if he simply preferred the Eagles to the Browns? We don't know what was said between them. Remember Kelly blew off a dinner meeting to continue with Philly. What if the Browns realized he was either going back to Oregon or going to Philly?

I just don't see how this makes the Browns look bad without knowing what happened. Browns look like they tried and failed to get their top pick, that's about it in my eyes.

I'm not sure where you are getting he chose Philly over Cleveland? We moved on from him and hired a head coach…

On Jan. 7th, he told Oregon he was staying and not going to the NFL….why the hell would we sit around and hope he changed his mind…..we moved on.

Of course he went to Philly when he decided to go to the NFL…of the 3 teams that interviewed him, they were the only on left without a coach.

All you guys saying "I wouldn't want him anyhow" are bloody liars. Absolute liars.

Wrong, I never wanted him in the first place.

I love how everyone wets their pants over a guy that has never even coached in the NFL. Bottom line, Chud is more credible than Kelly. Chud has NFL experience, Kelly none. Chud has NFL success, Kelly has none.

People are grasping at straws assuming he can get it done in the NFL. Sure, Chud is no sure thing either, but I rather have the guy that has coached in the NFL.

There's absolutely no way of knowing his system will work. Personally, I think he'll fall right on his face and be back in college football in two years.

Meh, I'm not to bothered by it. I don't want a coach where we have to beg him to come. I'm not in love with the Chud hire, but I really like it and it makes sense. Kelly is a big risk, but he has a lot of upside. I don't think he has the same amount of success he had in Oregon.

I get that we moved on. I just heard the Browns being hammered (by idiots) for not waiting and continuing to try and get Kelly. All I'm saying is that one possible reason we didn't wait is that we got the impression he was leaning toward Philly if leaving Oregon.

Most likely scenario is we didn't want to beg and we moved on after he announced he was staying.

I'll fully admit that I wanted Kelly to be our coach. I love the offense he runs and I think he'd get the most out of his personnel. That said, the way he left Oregon was really shitty. I don't get how anyone can possibly deny that. The guy didn't even tell the people he worked with or his players. That's cold, and it remarkably similar to how a certain LeBron James left Cleveland not too long ago.

Regardless, Kelly chose a different team and we hired a different coach. Time to move on.

I get that and yeah that does suck for them, and it shows poor character... So in the end, there's not really a reason for anyone to feel down for a person like that not taking their offer...

This guy might not even coach a practice snap for the eagles.

Here I thought he was going to say Chud runs the worst routes he's ever seen. ;)

How much Chud could a Chip munk chuck if a Chip munk could chuck Chud.

Not what Kelly told Browns RT @HubbuchNYP Chip Kelly also confirms that the Browns were never a factor: “It was either Eagles or Oregon.”

This guy is something else.

To play the devil's advocate here, didn't Belicheck pull something similar way back when? The guy resigned as coach of the Jets AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE to announce him as coach. He then signed with a division rival. That turned out fine for the Patriots, and I think that just because Chip Kelly took a few weeks to chance his mind (longer than Belicheck) it doesn't mean he is going to pull a Saban. I think he actually made the right decision, if you are going to jump to the NFL ranks, doing so to a team with a veteran roster and a track record of success made much more sense than the Buccaneers or Browns.

Problem is, that veteran roster pretty much sucks.

And it's not just the fact he changed his mind. He did so without telling his staff, and just 2 days prior to taking the job, was at recruits' homes trying to convince them to come play at Oregon for him... That's pretty Saban-esque.

Oh, not excusing his actions or saying they weren't mimicking of Saban, but it isn't a portend of him doing what Saban did to the Dolphins. And really, what did you expect Kelly to tell recruits? Should he have been telling them he was still talking to the Eagles? This isn't something exclusive to Nick Saban- EVERY college coach that has ever 'moved up' a school has done the same thing. They all act like they are staying right up until they resign, they have to. To do otherwise could cost them recruits if the deal to move on falls through. I just don't see this making him the next Saban. Again, the best coach in the NFL did something just as sleazy once upon a time and it has worked out wonders for his team. Time will tell.
