Eh I would put a lot of blame on the cavs for stepping off the gas and just chucking shitty shots. That's a recipe to choke away a lead.
I'm not going to argue how badly our defense relaxed in the 4th to let them back in, but the 2nd quarter was a perfect example of how playoff refs are told to control playoff games. We killed them on the floor, yet their 13 free throws helped them only lose the quarter by 9.

EDIT: To highlight how bad it was in the 2nd quarter, we scored 25 points on field goals, they scored 8. Refs had their say and it was a 29-20 quarter. Obviously not all calls are bad calls, but I distinctly remember Miro and Dunleavy getting some seriously soft calls in this quarter (remember the phantom foul on JJ on the 3 pointer by Miro?).

The ref review shows 5 points that the Bulls scored in the final 2 minutes that shouldn't have happened because of turnover calls that were missed. And they totally ignored Rose rolling and sliding his pivot foot, which was the same play that Noah traveled on that didn't get called. So they essentially got a 3 pointer from Butler on a play they should have turned it over twice on.

EDIT:
The thought occurred to me that I should link the 2 plays they scored on and what the ref review said.

1st play: http://on.nba.com/1H2z1WS
Ref review: Incorrect non-call, Traveling. Noah (CHI) moves his pivot foot heel to toe to create space
Result: Butler 3 pointer.
My comments: Noah obviously does a little shuffle, but look at Rose's pivot foot that he rolls, it sure looks like a travel, as well.

2nd play: http://on.nba.com/1H5m0fn
Ref review: Incorrect non-call, Illegal screen. Noah (CHI) begins his screen on Dellavedova (CLE) while his right foot is out of bounds
Result: Butler layup.
My comments: Watch Butler after the made layup. Sees the ball get inbounded to Kyrie, turns away, then realizes "oh yeah, we have to foul him". Derp!

Great write up...

What's fascinating to me is that there are Bulls fans that have convinced themselves somehow that WE are getting all the calls.. all of the evidence says otherwise, though.. I try really hard to not be a homer when evaluating calls and the refs, but to me it has felt like the longer this series goes on, the more and more tilted the calls are towards the Bulls - not coincidentally as we gain a bit of a foothold in the series. It just cannot be a coincidence.. that along with the atrocious, egregious national broadcasts that so obviously favor the Bulls it should be criminal.

The entire league is trying to push a Rose redemption story, is what I think it comes down to, and for our guys to persevere through that (so far) should become legend in this town.

Honestly the broadcasts of these playoff games may have been more stressful than the actual games themselves up to this point, which is saying a lot.

Hilarious username by the way...

Beam me the fuck up already!

I also think there is an element of guys getting out of the game mentally even on defense when they spend 15 seconds on the offensive end standing around watching LBJ pound the ball.

Arguably, they shouldn't just be standing around, but it's tough to break down defenders when the ball isn't moving at all, even if the players are. And a lot of the time, LBJ is doing his pounding while barely over the time line, not really in a position to execute a good pass anyway.

By the way, more evidence in the "LeBron takes 3s because he's too tired to execute but doesn't want to take play off or act the decoy"-argument

LeBron took more 3s in the 2nd half than the 1st
Worst Ast% (37.9/37.4 **35.8**) with 0 days rest
highest 3% frequency 5.6 gm/ 0 days rest (v. 3.9 w/2, 5.0 w/1 day rest)

3s taken In fourth quarters of games w/0 days rest
2.1 v. .3 (3) / 1.0 (2) / 1.5 (1)

Turnovers not indicative of fatiguge (4th)
.7/.8/1.3/1.1 -- or at least not as indicative (3days to 0 days)

FT is actually better on 0days (80.5 v. 75% in all three times suggestive he turns up the intensity with 0 days)
He's shot better in the 4th of 0days 51.9 b. 58.3 (3) / 47.5 / 44.4 - so overall not an issue, but in small... especially playoffs...

I got excited looking into this and turned it into a piece. Not sure how soon they'll get it up, but here's the relevant info (couldn't figure out how to upload my jpg)

This is just absolute gold, Chris. Great to see some ideas that have been batted around in here actually followed to ground and analyzed. Fun, incredibly interesting stuff.

This kind of data mining means you've basically lapped everybody else writing about the Cavs right now.

Chris is Legit the best Cavs beat writer and it's not close.
