"It’s something that’s really on James. He prides himself on understanding the game — and perhaps Coach David Blatt can gently push him — but what do you say to arguably the best player in basketball? “Hey I noticed you start to make much worse decisions when you get tired.” Good luck with that."

Love that. It's easy for armchair coaches to blame the staff for not fixing this, but when you put it that way, you can see how tricky a fix really is.

This is really going to be a fascinating thing to watch next season with a full, healthy roster.

It's been really difficult for Blatt to rest LeBron because we keep coming out and shitting the bed in the opening parts of the first quarter, so we've often been playing from behind from the get go. It's just hard to have him off the floor too long when he's one of the only people we can trust to hold the ball. Delly can do okay with this, but he had the bonehead play in last game where he dribbled the ball of his foot.

I miss the good old days when we had all our players healthy and we were just so powerful offensively that we didn't need to sweat the small stuff. These games are really just brutal grinds and I hope we have it in us to eliminate them tonight. Kind of expecting some shenanigans from Gibson, Dunleavy or Brooks tonight, especially if the Bulls fall behind.

if you checked my breakdown today, I showed that play - Hinrich pushed him.

Poor Delly! Yeah the refs are letting em play in this series although they've also been quick to try and shut down any dirty stuff so I give them credit for that. Gibson I think got a couple shots in on Delly on the plays prior to the leglock play but overall the refs have managed to keep the games from getting real ugly a la game 4 Boston.

Spo or Riley would had no problem calling out LJ on this. Perhaps with more diplomatic phrasing than the example tho.

The issue isn't just mentioning it to him, though. It's being able to actually change the behavior. Because even if you say it diplomatically, his response may well be "yeah, so what?".

I'd guess he probably knows it already, but calculates that it's better to do that and still be on the floor -particularly defensively - than sitting on the bench. And that would likely be his response, so where do you go from there?

It's not just a question of Blatt and the Cavs supposedly lacking the cachet of Spo and Riley.

Thanks a lot for the article Chris. It seems that the best way to look at the quality of defense is to look at the percentage of contested shots (from NBA stats - distance to opposite player, right?).Just looking at the score is probably not good, because this depends on how the opposite team shot the ball.

Chris-

Why is everyone, media to refs, so blatantly against Cleveland?
I don’t think they are, and I’m pretty sure unless you’re a Lakers fan, every fanbase has a “why doesn’t the national media give us any respect” attitude. I guarantee you on the other side of the fence, Atlanta has the same attitude about their team.
