Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
McCown wasnt awful when he had a decent line in front of him. I think hes better than Hoyer but its a real crapshoot. If anything, hes insurance if we cannot get anyone better.

Manziel will have his shot but its up to him. If Josh is brought here to start opening day.... Burn that bitch down.

The nicest thing I can say about McCown is that last year his OC stepped down for health reasons after week 1. It must have been hard on the guy to basically not have a system or the coach who devised the system. I heard he was pretty much a co-offensive coordinator after Tedford stepped down.

I will begin the initial draft of all the reasons this plan sucks once I narrow it down to 20 or so reasons.

Too bad they didn't pay any attention to his first decade in the NFL.

I really don't get the hate at all here.

It's clear that he's not here to be the starter. It's also been stated that it won't hinder us from drafting or signing another QB.

He was signed because he knows the offense & is willing to be a mentor.

We needed a vet QB & he's probably the best vet QB choice out of everyone available, as it doesn't cost us a pick & is cool with whatever role he ends up with.

This isn't to sound like an ass, but how does he know the offense exactly? Deflippo was just the QB coach right? Do we really even know what type of system he will run exactly?

I'm not really impressed or upset with the signing but I hope they have a better plan than having him and Manziel compete for the starting spot.

Read the tea leaves guys. Farmer is going to make a play on Mariota.

Johnny is in rehab and Pettine says he's out of the starting QB equation in 2015. Shaw is practice squad fodder.

Our only other QB is now a questionable starter journeyman who Farmer's first scripted press release words described this way: "Josh is your consummate professional. He’s known to be a great guy in the locker room and will be great for the quarterback room." He's here to be a mentor and stop-gap.

Either Farmer is an idiot and is resting his job on a journeyman and a guy currently in rehab who was horrendous last year or he has other plans... and given that most of the guys in the draft are big projects (Petty/Hundley/Grayson, etc.), there's only one name that fits the bill.

Farmer loves Mariota. Our QB coach was intentionally allowed to finish working with Mariota. We have multiple assets to make a trade up happen without selling the future. The stars are aligning.

I must have missed something...source?

Check his combine presser. He said that with all the things going on with Johnny, he can't be counted on at QB and that we'd need to address the position.

Anybody pretending there are tea leaves to read through here are kidding themselves at this point.

Being the guy who goes out on a limb is cool and all, but there's no trail to follow here.

We all have no idea. Doubt the front office does either.

Saying the front office doesn't have a plan or any idea what will happen next is a little naïve. They clearly have a plan, whether it works out in their favor or not is yet to be determined. They aren't sitting around a room and going "hey did anyone see Tampa cut Josh McCown? We should sign him!"

I don't know if I buy the theory that we are drafting a QB from the 2nd round on. Now that McCown is signed and as long as Manziel is in town, I just don't believe they are going to draft a QB in any of the 1st 4-5 rounds. If they did use a valuable draft pick to acquire a QB then 1 of 3 things will have to happen.

1. We break camp in September with 3 QBs on the 53 man roster. Very few if any NFL teams do this without some sort of significant injury at the position.

2. We put either the newly drafted QB or Manziel on the practice squad which makes him available to any team to take for free.

3. We get rid of the rookie QB or Manziel before camp ends.

I just don't see the Browns investing coaching resources into developing 2 young QBs at the same time and seeing who will be the best. I think they are going to have to make a choice. Either get rid of Manziel before camp and draft a QB or stay with Manziel and see what happens.
