Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yea if it's a leapfrog deal, it would make sense that the Browns give up the #11 for Foles and something so the Eagles can get into position to jump into the top 5.

This off-season QB situation is shitty, at best.

FAs: Hoyer, Locker, Mallett, Sanchez are the top FAs-to be; yikes. Given our draft position, how we won't be able to get a sniff at one of the top two QBs in the draft, and how Hoyer's flaws were exposed over a full season; I reluctantly would court Ryan Mallett and see if he's interested.

Draft: Mariota is a talented cat, but will need seasoning; the CLE mob who will be chanting his name by week eight is not the place for him IMO. Winston is the most ready-to-play, but I think he is going to Tampa; he'll fit in nicely with the Hard Rock Casino, and some of the best strip clubs in the country. Hundley and Petty also need an NFL QB to apprentice under; they need to learn how to take a snap from under center, and look beyond their initial read (Petty especially, but he has all the tools).

Available QBs: I've heard Sam Bradford, but I thought there was a big cap hit if he got cut/traded; that would need to be re-done. I would think a guy like Austin Davis might be something Ray Farmer would be sniffing around, especially if the new StL OC doesn't gel with him (or Bradford, for that matter). I'll say Peyton Manning, and never speak of it again LOL.

Crap.

Foles seems like fool's gold. He had great success in the first year of Kelly in the NFL, but then I saw DCs adjust not only to Kelly's radical change in philosophy but also Foles weaknesses. I'd be disappointed if the Browns give up much for that contract.

Mallet would be OK

If the Browns help Chip Kelly trade up to get a player he's coached and clearly believes is a franchise QB... while taking on a guy Chip wants nothing to do with who had a horrid season in an offense that made Mark Sanchez look respectable... so help me...

I liked Foles a lot coming out of Arizona. He's an accurate pocket passer with a cannon for an arm, a history of playing big in big spots and has desirable size. He played out of his mind 2 years ago and regressed to the mean last year.

Given the right situation, I think Foles projects as a competent long term starter who can win you playoff games. Something we haven't had in a long long time.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. He's not as mobile as Kelly wants his QBs to be, so I think he's looking for a better fit for the read-option.

I'd be excited to land Foles. Miles upon miles above what I expect from Johnny and could go a long way towards actually changing the culture. The veterans are going to be livid if the FO/Coaching Staff throws games away by tossing Johnny out there when he's not really ready for the show. A strong and pretty accurate arm in Cleveland? Show me.

...sorry, I don't know what you guys see in Foles that we don't have in Hoyer. (Not saying I am a Hoyer fan).

Go watch game film on Foles.

As an Eagles fan, please take Foles off our hands. People assume he's good pocket passer who is just too slow to work in Kelly's system, when in reality the real issue is that he's a bad pocket passer in addition to being the slowest man alive.

I didn't realize Foles was still on his rookie deal. I thought he signed a monster extension for some reason. I still agree that he is overrated due to Chip Kelly's system and the monster numbers he put up in that transition year where DCs hadn't adjusted to Kelly. I like getting a guy who has learned to run a pro style offense, which Foles can do. I still agree he hasn't shown me much more than Hoyer.

Other than having a stronger arm, being more mobile, being four years younger, 5-6% points of completions, 18 points of QB rating....nah, there's not that much separating him from Brian Hoyer.

Foles is a modest upgrade to the Browns, but I don't necessarily think he's a long-term solution either. Willing to let him prove it while on that rookie deal.
