Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not sure I would invest all that money into a guy who has half the weapons and a much shitier line.

Can the Redskins sign to him a long deal and then trade him to us? Seems like a huge risk to give up #12 if Cousins isn't already locked up long term.

If that is possible, I'd way rather do that than give up two 2nd rounders for Jimmy G considering he's hardly played and played in a system that made Matt Cassell and Jacoby Brissett look good.

If we are playing the "It's the system" line of thinking out correctly, we also have to acknowledge that Sean McVay is considered the brightest young play caller in the NFL before leaving Washington for LA. Who knows what Cousins accomplishes without McVay yet...

You can only franchise tag a player twice and a qb 3 years in a row now, changed under new CBA. The third year for qb has to include a 44% raise over the previous year.

So you are suggesting we would have 3 years of him, but would be by far the highest paid qb if we kept franching him for 3 years, then we lose him after paying him what i assume is about 90 million for 3 years of Kirk Cousins.

Talk about a monumental waste of money and a good way to piss off allot of potential players.

PS., the math is 24 for sure this year, lets say 26 for next then the 44% increase so 37.5 for the last, so almost 90 million for 3 years.
Foiled by the new CBA!

Didn't know that, thanks.

I would still do it. Kirk is really, really good. My intention isn't to tag him all 3 years. My intention is to sign him long term. If that means making him the highest paid QB in the NFL so be it. A top 10 QB becoming available is about as rare as it gets. The #12 overall pick isn't going to stop me and neither is overpaying for him when we have more cap space than anyone in the NFL

Very rarely do players leave in free agency if the team prioritizes them in the NFL. It's why QBs like Kirk almost never hit the market.

Now, usually that means granting an extension the year before the player hits free agency, which obviously we can't do here, but if you're willing to pay the player usually stays. It's why Jamie Collins is staying with a 1-15 team.

I really wouldn't be worried about Kirk being a rental. If we deal #12 for him he is a Brown long term.

Top 10? That might be a stretch for sure.

Dont be fooled by the yards, he averaged 38 attempts a game, that is allot. Good for 6th most in the nfl.

He most compares to Mathew Stafford when looking at the numbers or Andy Dalton.

That seems like allot to pay for Stafford or Dalton.

Dont get me wrong, huge, huge improvement, but is it championship level?

Just nervous about having to pay him as a top 3 or 4 qb and giving up a early 1st to do it.

Much rather do a 2nd 2 years in a row and get him Mike Williams to have multiple top threats to throw too.

Indeed, but his yards per passing attempt was a very good 8.1 which was behind only Matt Ryan and Tom Brady. Very good company to have.

Kirk was also 2nd in the NFL in completions of over 20 yards with 69 (behind only Brees and tied with Matt Ryan) and tied with Dalton for third in the NFL in completions over 40 yards with 13 (behind only Ryan and Rivers)

Would gladly pay Stafford that as well. Not Dalton. I think he is the clear weak link of the 3

Absolutely. He is a big play machine and somehow manages to keep an extremely efficient completion percentage while stretching the ball down the field. Plus I also just watched the corpse of Peyton Manning win a super bowl. No QB would win a super bowl with the trash team we have right now, but Kirk would just be one of many improvements we need to become contenders. And he is a giant improvement at that.

First no one is giving up a top 5 pick for cousins. It makes no sense. Bradford with a team friendly deal he had just signed went for a first projected to be 15-25. So no one is giving up a top 5 for cousins knowing they are going to have to pay him a metric shit ton.

Two can we please stop talking about garapollo for anything more than a second, and i think that's over pay. Less than 100 career passes in 3 years. If he was going to be anything awesome the pats would find a way to keep him. Instead they are just trying to convince everyone he is worth a ton.

Edit and im all for cousins, but top 5 is an overpay that no one would do. I still think 12 is high. I would do the high 2nd this year and 2nd next for cousins

Why is Washington getting rid of him?

And it is concerning with all of those yards and big plays it didnt lead to more TD's.

I am on the fence if he is truly available, i am just not sold on him yet.

I do see your points, but just would make me nervous.

It's a good question. I posted the quote below a few weeks ago, but it could be that the relationship is not mendable at this point and Kirk doesn't want to sign long term in Washington and Washington knows that. That's speculation on m part though.

Washington Times, Thom Loverro, Jan 5, 2017

"Cousins harbors resentments about his time here in Washington, dating back to his anger about being drafted by Mike Shanahan in the same draft as Robert Griffin III to his second-class citizenship in the building while RG III ruled the franchise to last year’s lowball long-term offer from the team... Cousins was asked Sunday following the (game) if he wanted to return to the team to play quarterback next season. He said, “It’s really not my decision to make. They chose to tag me (last year) and the same is true this year, so if they don’t choose to tag me (this year) then I think that question is answered at that point."

Can someone give an example of a college QB who has tossed a shit load of INTs like Watson, but went on to be a good NFL QB?

Farve 54/32 ratio for career
Peyton 89/33
Brady 30/17
Brees 90/45

Watson 90/32

Now I am not a huge Watson fan, but he plays in the SEC, Aaron Rodgers had a great college TD/INT percentage, but to say he tossed a shit load compared to how much he threw is not accurate.

There are things I dont like about him though, dont think he has good pocket awareness is my biggest issue, but he others have succeeded throwing about the same amount of interceptions.
