Cleveland Browns Select Baylor WR Josh Gordon

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
CDT,

Are you saying you like Gordon as much as you like Hughes?!

I like this. Team is finally heading in the right direction.

Yeah, usually when I think of "the right direction" I think of a 2nd round supplemental pick on a guy who hasn't played in a year with a couple marijuana arrests which got him kicked out of school.

I have the boner the size of a 747 right now.

This offense is going to be so much better with these rookies than it has been for the past decade. Things are looking up.

Taking this guy in my fantasy football rookie draft fo sho.

I'm not really sure what to think. We'll find out if he can play or not really soon. I struggle to believe the hype that he would have been a top-10 selection in a normal draft class, like some has stated. Supposedly we ended up with the second selection of round two and only the Bills could have outbid us. So tossing in a likely high 2nd probably means we weren't high enough in the 3rd round order to get him. I'm speculating that Holmgren refused to let Dan Snyder stick it to him again. H&H typically take guys with several years production. Because it's out of character, I feel like it's a reach even if he is good, and an indictment on our current receivers. We all knew they sucked as a unit anyway, but this is a bit of an admission. It definitely took balls to make the pick and it's a small indicator the the organization feels it's getting close to being competitive.

We were the second pick of every round, so we would have had the second pick in the third round as well.

It seems that he had one arrest, and he was the passenger in the vehicle:

The situation seems to be Gordon being in Jefferson's car at the wrong time while high on weed. I've seen far worse things from Gordon's perspective. Now if he owned the car with multiple bags of marijuana hidden inside or was driving the car, that would be different in my book. If you know of more than one incident, b00bie, please share...

How is that any different than the one dude on our team who threw another guy through a glass door? Were you complaining then?

Love the people acting like they know what they're talking about in this thread. No idea if this is a good move or not, but I do like that we are taking a risk for once.

You gotta admit there is no direction but up with the lack of receiver and qb play our team had last year.

Yes, because we all know a guy who smoked weed to get kicked out of school is such an insane risk that if he fails, it'll push our rebuild back 5 years, at least, and result in the firing of everybody..

Low risk, high reward.

Great pickup.

I admittedly have never seen him play and am just going by what I've seen & read, but IIRC, people on this board were clamoring for us to take a shot on him even before today..

Everyone applauded the Rams for taking Janoris Jenkins and his 17 arrests, but being a passenger at Taco Bell and smoking weed once is a felony apparently.

Deezy the John Hughes pick still irks me :chuckles:

So when are we going to cut Colt so Josh can get #12?

Not sure how you can say low risk. Gambling a likely top 35-40 pick next year is assuredly risky. Will agree with the high reward portion. Wish there was a way to see what other teams bid. I'd feel a lot better about this if it was a 3rd rounder.

It is a risk, no doubt about it. The only team ahead of us in each round was Buffalo and reports are that Buffalo put a 3rd round claim in. So if we didn't use our 2nd rounder, Josh Gordon would be a Buffalo Bill right now.

A lot of people wanted Stephen Hill, Brian Quick, Alshon Jeffrey, Ruben Randall, in the 2nd. H&H apparently believe Gordon is at least on par with those guys. If he is, it's not even a reach, we're just getting him earlier.

I say low risk (maybe low risk wasn't the right term, but I don't think it's high risk in the least bit), because of the following:

1.) Odds are we'd have taken a WR with one of our 1st couple picks next season anyway.

2.) There's a good chance Gordon will end up being better than somebody we can get in the 2nd round next season.

3.) Holmgren & Heckert will continue to stockpile draft picks. It's what they do. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with a 2nd next season anyway.

4.) Gordon got kicked out of school for smoking weed, not anything ridiculously major.

5.) Holmgren & Heckert drafted Taylor & Sheard, 2 guys that weren't exactly known for being choir boys, and it's worked out. I trust their judgement on the "character issue" type guys.

6.) H & H also have done well with their 2nd round picks while here. While some may say that's a reason we shouldn't have selected him, I disagree. If they think he's at least worth what will amount to a '13 2nd rd pick, why not just get him a year early & plug him in right away, instead of taking a chance that he goes higher next season?
