Cleveland Cavaliers at Top of LaMarcus Aldridge's Destination List

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No clue. I just know the Spurs were mentioned.
I agree they'd definitely be in the running I just think cavs have a great opportunity if they can sell Aldridge on playing center.

More or less it's not really up to Portland so long as they're getting something back. It's mostly up to Aldridge to decide.

If he says cavs or I walk then a trade would likely get done.

Because the assets they could get from said West team are significantly better than they can get from the Cavs. And does it really matter if they make a west team "stronger?" If you're trading your best player assets, odds are that team won't be as strong when you finally get back to being a contender.

But the spurs can sign him out right so why give up a lot to get him in a sign and trade. The player dictates where he wants to go, Portland basically get a take it or leave it deal. If LMA wants to be a Cavs then Portland is smart to help him, if they don't they risk losing him for nothing. Do you think if Portland says no we won't help you become a cavs but these teams can offer us more in a sign and trade, go talk to them, he listens to Portland?

Right, by you missed my earlier argument:

If the Spurs KNOW they can get him, but that they would need to trade for him, why would they NOT trade for him?

I think for any team it comes down to LMA saying its his first choice and he wants to be there. Not sure how much loyalty he will show to Portland where he comes down to 2 teams and asks them to play the trade and assets game so Portland can benifit the most. A player wants whatever team they go to, to be as flexible as possible to improve if they want to win. Getting into a bidding war to get the player doesn't help that. I think you are thinking too much of the trade part of the sign and trade. Portland has barely any leverage in the sign and trade situation, LMA has it all. San Antonio or the Cavs has to be the clear destination for him to really even start talking sign and trade.

I love Aldridge's game and always have. One of the players I've coveted most over the years. However, I think we've seen that a floor spacer and 3-point threat like Love fits best alongside LeBron and Irving. Fitting 4 max contracts under the cap as well as trying to make 4 primary scorers fit on one offense poses real problems.

That said, his post defense is also superior to Love's.

For me, I think our roster as it's currently constructed can win it all (with a healthy Love). We just need to cut some dead weight (Miller, Marion, and arguably Jones) and replace that with some semblance of depth.

I posted the article in the Brendan Haywood thread; word is that the Spurs will look to move Splitter to create additional cap space.

Perfect way to use Haywood's contract this summer. Ideal backup for Mozgov.

Splitter only makes 8.5$ mil next year iirc, Cavs might even be able to grab a pick or young player being one of Cory Joseph or Kyle Anderson to save the Spurs some more money since Haywood's contract is worth 10.5 $ iirc.

If Splitter is healthy, he would be an amazing back up to Mozgov. We won't be the only team trying to pry him away though.

That would be a really solid big rotation. Love, TT, Andy, Mozgov, & Splitter.

I found some advanced statistics to compare Kevin with LaMarcus' shot selections as post-players. The results are interesting.

1. Career comparison:

It's actually worth $13.2 in incoming salary. When over the tax line, a traded player can net 125% of their salary. That's more than enough to beef up our bench.

I'd be interested to see where we address needs in the draft, and where we acquire talent. It's going to be fun...that's for sure. I just hope to God Haywood doesn't retire lol. We could realistically replace the entire walking dead in 1 trade (Miller, Jones, Marion).

I'd also love to see what their dollar value is on TT and Shump. We have the right to match both, but I can see a team going overboard and spending a ton. You can bet, if LBJ wants them here, Gilbert will pay them.

I can't remember how it works, but I think he gets paid his amnestied salary but only counts for like 1 mil if waived. Hard to believe he would do it but you never know.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of trading with San Antonio.

Haywood, Harris, pick compensation for Splitter and Mills.

Boom.

We fill our holes and the Spurs get LA.

I have to say no to Patty Mills. Can't handle that many Aussies in the backcourt.

LeBron has never played with a mid-range PF like Aldridge.

That's a nice outlet to have on a drive and kick especially as he ages further.

Kevin Love is very good mid-range, both in the post at the elbow and facing up. Problem is, he hasn't been utilized there all that much.
