Cleveland Indians End of Season Game Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not shocking at all. It's a contradiction based on what Acta said just a few days ago and what he told his players. Goal is 2nd place. If that isn't the goal and the real goal is to make sure our pen doesn't pitch 3 or 4 innings more this year so they don't get injured, well fine. He should not have stated the first goal of getting 2nd place then.

Santana would become a MUCH better hitter if he concentrated on being a 1b. He could be a well above average hitting 1st baseman if he did not have to catch. If the thinking is to make him a full time catcher, well, I strongly disagree with that.

Gomez pitching another good game.

Goddamned Juan Pierre. Always finds a way to dick us.

Why can't both be goals?

You can't take health of your pitchers seriously AND want to win second place?

LaPorta is just bad. My. I'm now not so sure I want to give him yet another shot.

b00bie, what is your opinion on the cost of re-signing Fukudome next season? $3-4 M?

I think that's what his agent will be looking for. I'd be pretty surprised if he got it.

The Berkman deal ($12M) set the market somewhat, so I'm a bit more inclined to believe he could get 3-4...moreso than if you asked me yesterday.

I think he'll end up waiting and letting guys like Crisp, Dejesus, Abreu and JD Drew set the market somewhat. There are a good amount of big league options out there, so it will be interesting to see how that affects the older group like Fuku.

Just a quick note:

Joe Smith is in the game.

Had he pitched yesterday, he would not have been available today.

Detroit on the verge of losing, we are kicking ass....allllllriiiiigghhttt!!!

Moving Santana from first to catcher would be incredibly stupid, not only because he is 10x more valuable playing catcher rather then first, the fact that the Indians don't have anyone worthy of being a full time starter at catcher. Please don't bring up Lou either.. Defensive catchers are all around the MLB, he's easily replaceable and not valuable. It's hard to find a good hitting catcher..

I just think Santana can be a better hitter, much better hitter, if he played anything else but catcher. There's a reason why most catchers aren't that great at hitting. It's the next thing to a pitcher being a hitter. Catching is one of the most taxing positions to play, if not the most. That's the only reason why I want Santana to play first and DH. I want him to be the best hitter he can be.

Gomez = 5-0 last five starts. Wow.

BTW:

Manny plans to unretire, seek reinstatement
By Adam Berry / MLB.com | 09/22/11 7:44 PM ET

After being told he could not play winter ball in the Dominican Republic as long as he remains on the inactive list, Manny Ramirez said Thursday he will formally request reinstatement.

According to a report by ESPNdeportes.com, Ramirez said he will serve his 100-game suspension for a second violation of Major League Baseball's drug policy upon being reinstated.

"I would comply with my pending sanction, and I would be available for any Major League team," Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com. "I already informed [agent] Scott Boras of my decision to return and begin the process.

If he is reinstated and a team signs him and he begins the 100 game suspension; does he count towards a roster spot of the 25 man while on suspension?

Asdrubal tearing it up since Doug called him out. All time Indians HR record for a SS.

Yes, he would count. That's what makes the penalty so effective.

VERY effective. So effective that it makes it tough for any team to even think about signing a player who is going to take a roster spot for the first 100 games. Not sure how a team could ever do it?

I could see a case of a team wanting him for the stretch drive trying to make the playoffs, but just getting there means a team is going to be short handed. I don't see any team signing him even if he's reinstated.

pshh.. just like the White sox last year, WE got such a good start, and we blow it.
