It boggles my mind how some people are not sold on sexton, and want to even trade him if we draft Ja.

I don't want to trade him, but he is the only starter without an assist and he is supposed to be the pg.

He ended with 4 assists and zero TOs.

But 3 APG is pretty horrible for a starting PG, I admit.

I think a good coach will be able to get Sexton's assist numbers higher. He really doesn't have any staple plays that he runs yet. He can run action and get Love an open 3 pretty easily.

I wish there were plays for him to drive and dish to the corners more often. When he has done it, he executes it fairly well.

He does need to work on being able to throw a lot pass to a big. That is the easiest way to rack up assists.

If that's correct, then you have to take him. But you could always trade him after that if you get a good enough offer.
We definitely have to take him if we're picking 2nd because RJ Barrett reminds me of Kent Bazemore. And Sexton can play SG since he shoot so damn well.

Kyrie Irving career averages 5.7 APG

Steph Curry is only averging 5.2 APG this year.

Collin Sexton really isnt that far behind the leagues best scoring PG's.

Kyrie only played best with Lebron, Kyrie really isn't a pg either.

Curry has a team full of ball handlers including Durrant, Klay and Draymond.

Sexton is a combo guard, I like him, just need to construct the team correct, thus why I say Morant is not off the board. I like how Sexton is doing, but we cant have him be our only playmaker, that is all I am saying.

He isn't a CP3, he is more a Kyrie type that needs another ball handler...but its ok, he is looking like a top 5 rookie that was drafted 8th.

We generally have 2 guys on the court at all times sharing the point guard duties right now. Cedi, Clarkson, Sexton and Knight have all been sharing the Pg's playmaking duties no matter who has been on the court.

Sure, Sexton is score first. But it in the future we should be asking, is the ball moving? Are guys getting involved? Are we creating scoring opportunities? And not, how many assists did Collin get tonight?

I haven't been able to watch many games lately...

But it seems like he is shooting the three damn near every time the defender does under the screen. Which is what we all wanted him to do, take more 3's. But I'm guessing this doesn't help his assist numbers. Let's wait and see what happens when teams start going over the screen on him.

bingo bango bongo and i'm surprised this mindset hasn't caught on more in the NBA in general. pretty much everyone has accepted the concept of "positionless basketball" to an extent, so why do we still think the PG needs to generate a ton of assists? the offense should generate assists, not the point guard.

This is what I want the Cavs to do if they end up with the 2nd spot and can't get Williamson. See what else they could get by trading that second pick. You know Phoenix has to want Morant and Atlanta possibly Barrett.

It's a weird year to me where there is a clear #1 and then a few hyped prospects that have some major issues in their games still and you have to hope they overcome them in the NBA. This makes them risky picks up at the top of the lottery. There are lots of good players into the second round. In this particular draft I think it would be great to pick up another 1st or even some seconds.

As far as Sexton, all I can do is smile at this point. So many positives over the last few weeks, the skilled shooting, scoring multiple ways, low to zero turnovers with so much playing time in recent games, and watching him it does really look like he's starting to know when to blast away with the speed or slow it down for the best shot or pass.

Another thing that stands out is that where a lot of rookies would be fatigued at this point in their first NBA season (Doncic looks this way to me), Sexton seems to have a bottomless pit of energy. And he has taken a beating this year getting smacked going to the hoop.

Back to the draft: for all of the people that want a big time assist man how about the Cavs get some 2nd round picks and grab Cassius Winston (Michigan State) and let him either have a bench role as a rookie or develop in the G league. That guy is exactly what you want, similar assists numbers v Morant given equal playing time and against much better competition with a better assist:turnover ratio. Plus, he's a great 3 point shooter and crafty closer to the basket. Why is he not even listed in mock drafts? Concerns about his body. Yes he needs a professional training program which he would get in the NBA (to get stronger). He doesn't do highlight real dunks like Morant, just a much better all around basketball player at this point.

Small, check. Michigan, check. Gilbert will probably draft him with our lottery pick.

I have a huge problem with him though. His face reminds me of Paul Pierce.

I don't hate the idea of trading down either. We saw firsthand the repercussions of NOT trading down when it was probably the best choice (Bennett, Anthony). The middle of the lottery is packed with 6'6-6'8 swing players. I'd be happy with DeAndre Hunter, reminds me of Harrison Barnes without the Black Falcon crap.
