Comcast BUYS Time Warner Cable

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They are 10x worse.. By far...

Care to elaborate? Dead serious. I'm a TWC customer, so if they are gonna make me a Comcast customer, would love to know what I'm in for.

Is it me, or did they even compete with each other, places I have lived i have never had to option of two cable providers. It was either cable, satellite, or a phone service.

So glad my apartment complex just put in WoW and AT&T Jacks for cable and internet services, now I just have to check my Time Warner Bill and make sure they didnt' stick me on contract when I changed my services back in Decemeber

So a company known for horrible customer service and lousy product quality is buying another company known for horrible customer service and lousy product quality.

I'm finding a place to quote this...

That's how it is for me. I have DirecTV for TV service (they're not great either but I need Sunday Ticket haha) but for internet, I have the choice between Time Warner and crappy DSL. Our local fiber optics hasn't spread out to our area yet so Time Warner it is... slow ass internet and crazy expensive. They absolutely throttle too. I don't want to know how much worse it will get if Comcast and TW merge.

I can't wait for the day fiber optics comes to my town because I'll be the first person in line. The big cable companies are a joke.

They compete over owning the rights to cable lines not individual customers.

This has to breach some sort of antitrust law, no?

Cable is an already oligopolistic market. This seems to be dangerously close to pushing the boundaries.

I've had WoW cable and internet for a good decade+ now and can give them nothing but the highest praise. I will be cancelling the cable service in the not so distant future, but that is entirely because of the emergence of netflix and the like. WoW's actual service has been fantastic - never any sort of data caps or complaints with internet, maybe one prolonged (>1hr) internet outage per year, and virtually never any cable outages.

Back when I (well, my parents) initially got the service, the company was in its early stages but I'm so glad we opted for that instead of a more established, but worse provider.

I wouldn't call it that yet... Still have both Dish networks and AT&T working... Stock up in this segment, though.

I live out here in the LA area and have had DirecTV and Time Warner internet the past decade. I've always paid the same rate for my internet. Sure enough got a notice last weekend that my internet cost was going up $10/month. Of course I called customer service yesterday and got the runaround..Now I know why..

I've had both Time Warner and currently have Comcast. Comcast is much better, had some issues and got them resolved quickly.. Time Warner is just the absolute worst as far as customer service. Not that Comcast is great, just better.

Pyro wasn't kidding.. Data caps.. that's what's in store for you.

RIAA and MPAA notices. Better get a VPN up, because Comcast checks ALL the shit you do. They also throttle your connection based on which port you're using.

They are evil.

To add to what Gour said, you can also look forward to:

- Comcast throttling your bandwidth back so that their "HD" service isn't really HD quality; of course, Comcast won't tell you they are doing it... they'll tell you it's because you need to upgrade the coax cable in your entire house
- frequent, temporary losses of signal... and when you call customer service to report them they'll say they show nothing wrong on their end but they'll gladly send a service tech out NEXT WEEK
- customer service reps who only know how to diagnose something based on their customer service manual in front of them (forget about them having ANY critical thinking or deductive reasoning skills - if it's not one of the two or three common problems listed in the manual, you guessed it - wait until next week for a technician to come out)
- service technicians who will blame whatever problem you're having on your house's "faulty wiring", your own equipment being "substandard and inadequate", etc. (Comcast's equipment and service is NEVER at fault)

I speak from experience on this. I was forced to use Comcast for 8 years because they were the only provider in our area and we have tall trees surrounding our property which precluded me from being able to use DirecTV or Dish Network. Their quality was deplorable and their "service" was atrocious. AT&T brought U-verse service into our neighborhood three years ago and I switched the first DAY it was available. The difference in service and product quality between Comcast and U-verse is like NIGHT AND DAY. When I switched to U-verse I talked to the installation technician about everything Comcast had been doing and saying to me over the eight years I had them and he laughed. He said everyone who he switches who used to have Comcast tells him the exact same thing. When he did the install he purposely didn't install new coax cable to show me what liars Comcast people are. Same coax, same computer and TV equipment and the picture quality of U-verse HD is LIGHT YEARS better than Comcast's. I have 140+ MORE channels with U-verse than I did with Comcast, I have better picture quality, ZERO service outages, I have whole house DVR (which I didn't have with Comcast)... and my monthly bill is $37 LESS than Comcast.

I only get like 18 down and close to 1 up and this shit is nearly $70/month. TWC TV is also shitty so I got DirecTV. I can't wait for data caps. Also the connection is so iffy at times. This will probably blow up the price of internet service which is great cause cable is the only realistic option where I live.
