Comcast BUYS Time Warner Cable

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Comcast has a hard 250 GB data cap per month with extreme throttling after that point.

I mean, TWC already throttles depending on the ports being used*they shape all bittorrent traffic*, but Comcast is just beyond awful.

There's just no way the gov't lets this shit go through. For christ's sakes, FCC blocked AT&T from buying TMobile and it's a distant 4th as far as coverage, etc.

Where all is Google fiber at right now? Just Kansas City and Austin TX I think right?

this is the most critical time to be concerns about antitrust issues. because cable companies , satelite are now battling DSL for netoworks. Hulu, Amazon, Netflix are starting to become viable alternatives to cabl and the phone companies have dsl and their own ability to provide tv.

You have networks like foxsportsgo that require a tv provider to work as well as other networks such as amc etc.

this isnt about marketshare its about network contracts and affiliations and network , sports broadcasting rights. dont forget Comcast and Time warner both offer phone service.

the more damaging consequence of the cable monopoly is in broadband Internet access, where the power of the cable firms' monopolies is magnified by the lack of practical alternatives to their Internet services. Yes, you can buy DSL Internet connectivity from your local telephone company. In some places, you can buy fiber-optic connectivity, also from a phone company (Verizon or AT&T). But DSL service is typically much slower than cable service and is geographically constrained even within service districts. (The further you are from a DSL connection box, or "central office," the crummier your signal.)
Verizon has ended its rollout of its FiOS fiber service; if your neighborhood doesn't have it now, it's not getting it. AT&T says it's still rolling out its Uverse fiber service, but hardly at a light-speed pace.

this article go on to mention Google fiber service which is gonna be offered in a few select cities. in these markets AT&T has increased its dsl speed but not anywhere. this kind of merger with two cable companies that already dominate the markets they serve individually will have even a larger area devoid of competition.

The United States in general is lacking in internet speeds. What is needed is more competition not less.

internet providers that are cable companies are directly competing against themselves with the advent of streaming digital providers cable providers are finidng new ways to make the transition to no cable cost prohibitive in the form of data caps.

Americans pay more for less in the internet market.. this doesnt help

I have never had a problem with TWC, maybe because I've never had a problem with them that required customer service...they come to do their set up, they leave, I have fast internet.

Switched to AT&T because we got more channels and DVR for a slightly cheaper rate and "up to" about the same speed I had with TWC...internet speed was garbage, they sent a tech out three times, finally got corrected and now I actually get "up to" what I'm paying for.

So no problems with either of them really...

I was in the same boat in SLC. First place I rented I was able to get Direct TV, and loved it. When I moved to my house, their were line of sight issues for Direct TV, and had to use Comcast. The picture quality sucked, and the price of it was around $40/month more then Direct TV, and I did not get near the channels or quality. I was so glad to move back into a house that I can have direct tv. I now have Direct TV, and Uverse for internet. I will admit though, that my Uverese internet is better then cable, so I am not sure where this DSL is worse the cable argument is coming from. From the people I talked to, at-least in my area, DSL is better then cable.

Hey, if you have TWC they recently opened up 50/5 in my area. I basically pay the same for that as I did for 15/1. Might be worth checking into to see if you can upgrade as well.

Do it online though, don't talk to any of their worthless reps.

What area?

I've had 30/5 for awhile in the Akron area. But it's an extra $10 a month.

P.S. SUPER worth it. It's blazing fast.

My dad who works decently high up with time warner told me tonight how the new CEO(started jan 1) of time warner had a clause in his contract that stated if time warner got sold he gets 50million..... So no surprise they got sold

They call that a golden parachute.

I don't see how the goverment stopped this. Way to get in the way of the free market!

By all accounts, the government was the only negative consideration for both TWC and Comcast. Charter Communications is now evaluating if it can get by without being blocked by regulators.

But there is no real doubt "the government" put an end to this deal.

Way to get in the way of the free market!

Not sure if serious?

Charter is the #3 cable company right? Do they really have the capital to buyout TWC? I somehow doubt it, although I could see Charter buying the small parts it was going to get in the initial buyout. So glad I don't have to use TWC anymore.
